Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

Job Summary

Join a dedicated healthcare team in Sitka, Alaska, providing comprehensive nursing care to obstetric patients and newborns. This role involves supporting mothers through labor, delivery, recovery, and the immediate postpartum period, while also ensuring the well-being of newborns. The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse utilizes the full nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, delivering high-quality, culturally sensitive, and patient-centered services.

You will collaborate closely with providers and neonatal teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes and safety for both mother and infant. This position is within a non-profit health consortium committed to serving the health interests of Southeast Alaska residents.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care for obstetric patients and newborns.
• Implement and evaluate nursing interventions, including fetal monitoring, medication administration, and emergency response.
• Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions or escalation of care.
• Provide patient and family education related to care, medications, and discharge needs.
• Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care and facilitate continuity of services.
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely in the electronic health record.
• Practice within the nursing scope of practice, adhering to regulatory, safety, and infection prevention requirements.
• Participate in quality and performance improvement activities.
• Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, flexibility, and teamwork, including providing guidance and delegation to ancillary staff and supporting peer education.
• Float to other departments or assignments as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program.
• For experienced nurses, current certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP are required at the time of hire.
• For new nursing program graduates or experienced nurses new to a specialty area, BLS is required at hire, with ACLS, PALS, and NRP to be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
