Mental Health Clinician

Location: Van Nuys, CA
Schedule: Full-Time
Salary: $115k - $125k (depending on experience) + benefits

Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Mental Health Clinician to provide clinical mental health services, crisis intervention, and support to individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, trauma, and co-occurring disorders.

This role is ideal for a licensed clinician who is passionate about trauma-informed care, harm reduction, Housing First principles, and providing meaningful support to high-acuity individuals in need of coordinated care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide individualized mental health services, including crisis intervention, risk assessment, safety planning, and psychoeducation.
• Conduct suicide risk assessments and develop appropriate safety plans.
• Provide direct clinical support to high-acuity participants with immediate mental health and behavioral needs.
• Develop, facilitate, and lead psychoeducational groups.
• Create psychoeducation and training materials tailored to participant needs.
• Supervise and support unlicensed Mental Health Professionals, including guidance on participant care, clinical decision-making, documentation, productivity, and service outcomes.
• Collaborate with shelter staff, case managers, program staff, and external agencies to coordinate comprehensive care plans.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to support alignment of services and program goals.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in HMIS and electronic health record systems.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, confidentiality requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
• Provide training and consultation to staff on trauma-informed care, de-escalation techniques, and mental health best practices.
• Participate in supervision, case consultations, and professional development activities.

Qualifications

• Active California license required: LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC.
• Minimum of two years of post-licensure experience in behavioral health or mental health services.
• Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or co-occurring disorders preferred.
• Experience with mobile crisis response and trauma-informed care preferred.
• Knowledge of Housing First, Harm Reduction, and Trauma-Informed Care principles.
• Understanding of mandatory reporting, Tarasoff requirements, professional boundaries, and clinical confidentiality.
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, documentation, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, HMIS, and electronic health record systems.
• CPR/First Aid certification required.
• Valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of vehicle insurance required.
• Ability to travel up to 25% of working hours.
