Physical Therapist II - Neuroscience - PRN

At Houston Methodist, the Physical Therapist II (PT II) position is responsible for evaluating and developing the therapy plan of care for a broad range of diagnoses and acuities. The role may specialize in care for complex patient types through advanced training and education. The PT II provides education to patients, their family members, and caregivers, and collaborates with interprofessional team members to resolve problems and achieve patient‑specific goals. The position delivers direct patient care, adheres to safety standards and guidelines, and serves as a preceptor, mentor, and clinical resource to less experienced staff, students, and fellows. The PT II assists with quality metrics, analytics, best‑practice development, and process improvement initiatives.

Non‑exemptQUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduate of an accredited physical therapy program. Experience: Two years as a Physical Therapist or completion of a Houston Methodist or comparable residency program. Licenses & Certifications (Required): BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA). PT – State licensure by the Texas Board of Examiners (compact license acceptable within 90 days of licensure). Knowledge & Abilities: Demonstrated competence in safe job performance and ongoing assessments. Proficient speaking, reading, and writing in English. Effective communication with patients, physicians, family, and coworkers, using positive language. Strong assessment, organizational, and problem‑solving skills. Advanced clinical skills for specific patient populations. Interpersonal, teamwork, and leadership skills with all levels of care. Independent function in challenging procedures and patient scenarios. Sound judgment in interactions with the care team and patient families. Basic computer skill and ability to use standard rehabilitation equipment. Professional competence in evaluating and utilizing treatment plans for complex patients.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Contribute to teamwork, offer assistance, foster healthy relationships, and provide guidance to the health‑care team. Use therapeutic communication to establish relationships with patients, families, and team members, and report pertinent patient information clearly. Teach nursing and support staff, orient new team members, and precept students and fellows.SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform comprehensive evaluation of patients across a broad range of diagnoses to determine functional status and treatment plans. Develop and implement physical therapy treatment plans, especially for complex patient populations. Provide education to patients, families, and caregivers, tailoring teaching methods to individual learning needs. Collaborate with the care team on treatment plan modifications, progress, and discharge planning to achieve patient goals. Balance and adjust caseloads to ensure optimal patient outcomes and improve patient satisfaction metrics.QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Regularly assess patients, monitor progress toward goals, and modify plans as indicated. Oversee physical therapy activities of the interprofessional team and adjust plans to maintain quality and safety. Identify opportunities for corrective action, contribute to process improvement, and maintain accurate documentation.FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Maintain accurate documentation of patient education and procedures and enter accurate charges. Use resources efficiently, manage time independently, and meet labor productivity standards.GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Initiate innovative evidence‑based solutions and participate in department projects or hospital committees. Identify and present areas for improvement in patient care or unit operations using evidence‑based literature. Seek self‑development opportunities, expand learning beyond baseline competencies, and maintain a development plan.SUPPLEMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Work Attire: Scrubs – required; uniforms and business professional attire – not required. On‑Call: No on‑call requirement.
