Nursing Instructor

This position is for a Nursing Instructor in the Associate Nursing Degree Program (ADN) on a part-time basis. The Nursing Instructor is responsible for instructing students, organizing the curriculum, overseeing classroom management, tracking the progress of each student, and keeping accurate records/files on each student in the classes he or she teaches. The instructor must also abide by the policies and standards of Valley College, ACCSC, WV RN Board, and any other regulatory/accrediting organization.

Responsibilities and duties include:

• Ensuring the course syllabus includes the course title, lecture/lab/clinical hour breakdown, course description, course learning objectives, method of instruction, course instructions, instructor professional bio, assessment methods, bio information on additional instructors, textbook(s) and supporting student resources, and location of the class.
• Developing lesson plans that include lecture and/or lab delivery methods, assignments/activities, homework, and evaluation tools for assigned classes as designated by the college provided curriculum.
• Instructing and guiding students in the classroom and/or lab learning environment, as designated by the college provided curriculum.
• Demonstrating procedures/processes and operating/demonstrating the use of appropriate equipment as designated by the curriculum.
• Grading and evaluating students' work in a timely manner and providing constructive feedback.
• Assisting and tutoring students with areas of the curriculum with which they are having difficulty.
• Keeping accurate and up-to-date progress reports on students' work.
• Compiling reports/updates on students as required.
• Providing telephone and/or email follow-up with students as requested.
• Maintaining a cooperative and professional learning environment.
• If designated for clinical work site instruction, supervising students during their clinical (off-site) experience as per the rules and regulations set by their program and the West Virginia Board of Nursing.

Course development responsibilities include:

• Conducting on-going evaluation of course material as outlined in the Valley College Nursing program bylaws.
• Participating in the selection of books and materials.
• Maintaining student handouts, tests, assignments, and course syllabus as directed by the Program Administrator.
• Comparing the number of planned clinical hours and laboratory hours with the number of clinical and/or laboratory hours provided to students and reporting the data to the Nursing Program Administrator.

Professional development responsibilities include:

• Developing a professional development (self-development and professional growth plan).
• Providing support documentation that demonstrates the professional development plan has been executed.
• Attending scheduled Valley College faculty meetings and in-service workshops.

Supervisory responsibility includes:

• Direct report: ADN Program Administrator.
• Secondary report: Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Work environment is an academic classroom setting, an onsite position with occasional travel.

Physical demands include standing for up to 4 hours, lifting to 50 lbs., and daily typing. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Position type/expected hours of work is an hourly, part-time role with a schedule that may vary based on the academic course calendar. The position typically requires up to 30 hours per week, following a MondayFriday schedule. Occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary based on job demands.

Requirements include:

• Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BSN) or higher.
• Four years in prior work experience as an RN.
• Current, valid licensure as a Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
• ACCSC requires four years of practical work experience that does not include teaching experience.
• Teaching experience is preferred.
