Pay or shift range: $143,500 USD to $148,500 USD The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Description The Roseton Power Plant is a 1,223 MW generating facility located in Newburgh, New York, overlooking the Hudson River Valley. Playing a critical role in regional grid reliability, the station offers the opportunity to work at one of New York’s significant energy facilities. Opportunity Summary The Shift Supervisor leads the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Roseton Power Plant while serving as the senior operating leader during assigned shifts. This position directs plant operations and operating personnel, coordinates maintenance activities, and makes real-time decisions in response to changing plant conditions. The Shift Supervisor also supports employee development, staffing, regulatory compliance, emergency response, and effective communication across shifts. Your scope of responsibility as Shift Supervisor will include the following primary functions: Direct and supervise plant operations, including startup, shutdown, monitoring, and operation of generating equipment and auxiliary systems in accordance with approved procedures and operating requirements. Monitor plant conditions and performance using control system information, PI data, operating logs, checklists, and field observations; identify equipment issues, abnormal conditions, and process upsets and direct appropriate corrective actions. Lead shift response to equipment failures and emergencies, making timely operational decisions to protect personnel, equipment, and plant reliability. Coordinate maintenance, inspections, testing, outages, and equipment releases, ensuring switching, isolation, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), tagging, and clearance activities are safely executed in accordance with approved procedures. Maintain accurate supervisor logs and operating records and ensure effective shift turnover by communicating plant status, equipment conditions, ongoing work, and significant operating events. Lead, coach, and develop operating personnel through training, qualification, performance feedback, and mentoring to promote safety, operational discipline, accountability, teamwork, and strong plant performance. Coordinate shift staffing, manpower requirements, overtime, and absence coverage to maintain appropriate operating coverage. Conduct shift meetings, safety discussions, and other communications to ensure personnel understand plant conditions, work priorities, safety expectations, and operational requirements. Safety, Compliance & Coordination Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with plant safety, environmental, regulatory, and operating requirements, including the proper handling of hazardous materials and wastes. Coordinate with plant personnel and contractors to safely execute daily work, outages, emergent repairs, and other assigned activities. Working Relationships The Shift Supervisor reports to the O&M Manager and receives general direction from the Plant Manager. This position directs operations personnel and coordinates with Maintenance, Engineering, Administration, and other plant personnel to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions. Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility. Fitness for Duty All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening. Work Schedule The Shift Supervisor works a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, alternating between days and nights to support continuous 24/7 operations. This position will require extended hours, flexible shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed to support plant operations and business needs and may also require callout availability. Depending on the position, on-call status may or may not apply. Compensation This position offers an annual base salary ranging from $143,500 to $148,500 and includes eligibility for an annual performance bonus. Operational Expertise and Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; advanced technical, vocational, power generation, or military training is preferred. Extensive power plant operations experience, preferably within a fossil steam or similar large generating facility, including startup, shutdown, equipment monitoring, and response to abnormal or emergency conditions. Demonstrated leadership experience directing operating personnel, coordinating shift activities, and maintaining safe and reliable plant operations. Strong technical knowledge of power generation equipment and steam-cycle systems, including mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control, and auxiliary systems, with the ability to coordinate maintenance, inspections, outages, and emergent repairs. Control room experience involving real-time plant monitoring, alarm response, equipment operation, troubleshooting, and operational decision-making. Thorough understanding of power plant safety and environmental requirements, including LOTO, equipment isolation, PPE, emergency response, and hazardous material and waste handling. Proficiency with plant operating and performance systems, including PI or similar historian software, control system information, electronic logs, and standard computer applications. Effective communication and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to develop employees, manage performance, communicate plant status, and make sound decisions during changing or abnormal operating conditions. Current Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card or ability to obtain one upon hire. Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver's license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
