Sanitation Supervisor

Successful Manufacturing Plant celebrating over 94 years of success is seeking a 3rd Shift Sanitation Supervisor to join our team.

Position Summary

The Sanitation Supervisor - Deep Cleaning is responsible for supervising, coordinating, and verifying sanitation and deep-cleaning activities to ensure the facility meets company, food safety, USDA/FSIS, regulatory / BRC, and customer requirements.

The Sanitation Supervisor must demonstrate the ability to independently plan, schedule, execute, and verify sanitation and deep-cleaning activities while coordinating effectively with department managers to ensure operational continuity, food safety compliance, audit readiness, and accurate recordkeeping.

Key Responsibilities

Sanitation & Deep Cleaning

• Supervise and participate in daily sanitation and scheduled deep-cleaning activities.
• Ensure equipment, production areas, floors, drains, overhead structures, and food-contact/non-food-contact surfaces are properly cleaned and sanitized.
• Develop and maintain cleaning schedules based on production requirements, risk, and established frequencies.
• Verify cleaning effectiveness through visual inspections, ATP testing, and other approved methods.
• Identify sanitation deficiencies, harborage areas, and recurring issues and ensure corrective actions are completed.

Food Safety & Audit Compliance

• Ensure compliance with HACCP, GMPs, SSOPs, USDA/FSIS requirements, and company food safety programs .
• Maintain working knowledge of BRCGS and other GFSI-recognized audit schemes .
• Maintain the facility in a constant state of audit readiness .
• Support environmental monitoring, sanitation verification, and corrective action programs.
• Immediately escalate conditions that may affect food safety or product quality.

Scheduling & Cross-Functional Coordination

• Plan and schedule sanitation and deep-cleaning activities to minimize production disruption.
• Coordinate with Production, Maintenance, Quality/Food Safety, and other department managers regarding equipment access, downtime, repairs, and sanitation requirements.
• Ensure sanitation work is completed within established timeframes.
• Communicate schedule changes, delays, equipment issues, and food safety concerns to the appropriate managers.

Documentation & Recordkeeping

• Ensure sanitation records are accurate, complete, timely, and properly maintained .
• Review sanitation logs, inspection records, ATP results, chemical concentrations, deep-cleaning records, and corrective actions.
• Ensure sanitation deviations are properly documented and followed through to completion.
• Maintain records required for USDA, BRCGS, customer, internal, and regulatory audits.

Employee Supervision & Training

• Supervise, assign, train, coach, and evaluate sanitation employees.
• Ensure employees follow SSOPs, GMPs, food safety, chemical safety, PPE, and LOTO requirements.
• Hold employees accountable for sanitation quality, safety, attendance, and performance.
• Develop employees and support future leadership development.

Safety & Chemical Management

• Enforce OSHA and company safety requirements.
• Ensure proper chemical handling, storage, labeling, concentration and titration.
• Verify proper use of PPE and sanitation equipment.
• Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, accidents, and near misses.

Continuous Improvement

• Investigate recurring sanitation deficiencies and assist with root-cause analysis.
• Support corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Identify opportunities to improve cleaning effectiveness, employee performance, sanitation efficiency, and food safety.
• Participate in USDA/FSIS, BRCGS, customer, and internal audits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical or food safety training preferred.
• 3-5 years of sanitation experience in a food manufacturing or USDA-inspected facility , with supervisory experience preferred.
• Experience with deep cleaning of food-processing equipment and production environments.
• Working knowledge of BRCGS/GFSI audit requirements, HACCP, GMPs, SSOPs, environmental monitoring, and sanitation verification .
• Knowledge of chemical safety, ATP testing, CAPA, root-cause analysis, OSHA, and LOTO.
• Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and documentation skills.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple sanitation activities in a fast-paced production environment.
• Ability to work effectively with multiple department managers.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a USDA-inspected food manufacturing environment, including refrigerated and wet areas, elevated noise levels, chemicals, raw food products, industrial equipment, conveyors, and powered industrial vehicles.

The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, climbing, and working around sanitation and processing equipment. Compliance with all food safety, quality, PPE, chemical safety, and workplace safety requirements is mandatory.
