Senior Civil Engineer - Stormwater

GFT is seeking a Senior Stormwater Engineer to join our Transportation group in Boston, MA. What you’ll be challenged to do:As a Senior Stormwater Engineer, you will shape how communities experience and rely on their infrastructure by designing drainage systems that protect roadways, reduce flooding, and improve water quality while supporting safe and reliable travel. You will lead stormwater design efforts for transportation projects, guiding solutions from concept through permitting and final design, and developing approaches that balance performance, sustainability, and regulatory requirements. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will integrate stormwater systems into roadway designs that serve both the public and the environment. At GFT, you will also mentor junior staff, share technical knowledge, and help strengthen the team’s capabilities, while continuing to grow your own expertise through complex projects that expand your impact and leadership.In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:Lead stormwater design for transportation projects, developing roadway drainage systems and best management practices that support safe and reliable infrastructurePrepare and oversee stormwater reports and environmental permitting in support of transportation project approvalsDesign roadway drainage systems using PondPack, StormCAD, and AutoCAD to address flooding, runoff, and water qualityCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate stormwater and utility design, including water and sewer systems, into transportation projectsProvide technical guidance, mentorship, and oversight to junior engineers, supporting individual and team development at GFTManage project tasks, schedules, and deliverables while ensuring quality, regulatory compliance, and alignment with client expectationsSupport stormwater design efforts across transportation and broader site development projects as neededWhat you'll bring to our firm:12 – 18 years of relevant experience in stormwater designBachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalentPE licenseExperience with environmental permitting and stormwater reports associated with transportation projectsExperience with drainage system design for roadwaysExperience with AutoCADProficient with PondPackProficient with StormCADWhat we prefer you bring:Experience with stormwater design associated with buildings, parking lots, and site developmentsExperience with leading and mentoring colleaguesExperience with utility design including water and sewerPrior supervision of staffExperience with MassDOT on both Design Build and Design Bid Build projects.Compensation:The salary range for this role is $130,000 - $172,500; Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.Featured Benefits:Hybrid (in-person and remote) work environment.Comprehensive benefits package including wellness programs, parental leave, and pet insurance, in addition to medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance.Tax-deferred 401(k) savings plan.Competitive paid-time-off (PTO) accrual.Tuition reimbursement for continued education.Commitment to professional development, access to internal and external training programs, and support of active participation in professional organizations.Incentive compensation for eligible positions.At GFT, a privately held AEC firm, we innovate where transportation, water, power and buildings converge.
