Job Summary:
The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized nursing care to patients during labor and delivery. This role involves continuous fetal monitoring, patient assessments, medication administration, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective maternal and neonatal care. The RN is expected to maintain high standards in a fast-paced acute care, Level I trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital environment, with at least two years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities:
The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized nursing care to patients during labor and delivery. This role involves continuous fetal monitoring, patient assessments, medication administration, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective maternal and neonatal care. The RN is expected to maintain high standards in a fast-paced acute care, Level I trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital environment, with at least two years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities:
- Perform continuous advanced fetal monitoring and interpret results accurately.
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments during labor and delivery.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring patient safety.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, midwives, and other healthcare team members.
- Provide education and emotional support to patients and families throughout labor and delivery.
- Document patient care and clinical observations accurately using Cerner electronic charting system.
- Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, including infection control and safety protocols.
- Float within the facility as needed to support other units within scope of practice.
- Participate in orientation and ongoing education to maintain clinical competencies.
- Active Registered Nurse license in Illinois.
- Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, preferably in labor and delivery or related acute care.
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
- Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM) certification and demonstrated interpretation skills.
- Strong clinical assessment and medication administration skills.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records, specifically Cerner.
- Experience in a teaching hospital setting.
- Previous work experience in a Magnet-designated hospital.
- Experience working in a Level I trauma center.
- Shift work includes 3 or 4 twelve-hour night shifts (1845-0715).
- Work every third weekend is required.
- No on-call requirement; however, floating within scope may be necessary.
- Teaching hospital environment with high acuity patient population.
- Parking permit required for hospital parking; no cost to employee.
- Guaranteed hours may be subject to client call-offs up to 36 hours per thirteen-week assignment.
- Discuss schedule requests and time off with management as per RTO policies.
- Night shift schedule: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM.
- Weekend work scheduled every third weekend.
- Block scheduling requests can be discussed and accommodated with manager approval.
