Senior Traffic Engineer

Senior Traffic EngineerVHB is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to join our growing Transportation Systems group in Watertown, MA. This role is ideal for an experienced traffic engineer with a strong background in traffic analysis and traffic design, including signing, pavement markings, traffic signals, roundabouts, temporary traffic control plan development in accordance with MUTCD and AASHTO design guidelines. Additional work may include construction support and field operations of traditional and advanced traffic signals. Also, opportunities to collaborate on transportation planning, safety, and multimodal projects.Join a recognized leader in transportation engineering and safety, with a collaborative culture focused on delivering innovative, data-driven solutions that improve safety and mobility.Responsibilities:Work independently and within a team of professionals to develop design plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a variety of public and private transportation projectsDevelop traffic plans such as signing, pavement markings, traffic signals, roundabouts, temporary traffic control plans, etc. in accordance with MUTCD and AASHTO design guidelinesDevelop, analyze and evaluate traffic signal operations using tools such as SynchroDevelop recommendations for traffic operational improvements, including intersection control evaluations, crash analyses, and traffic signal warrant analysesCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate traffic operations with broader transportation planning, safety, and multimodal design solutionsAttend meetings with transportation agenciesPerform engineering field work as neededPrepare and review technical memoranda and reportsPrepare and participate in technical presentationsPerform technical task management as neededPerform QAQC of the junior engineer workGuide and mentor junior team membersSkills & Abilities:Strong background in traffic engineeringProficiency in developing traffic design plans, specifications, and cost estimatesProficiency in conducting traffic studies, including signal operations analysesExcellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skillsStrong writing skills for technical reports and memorandaAbility to balance multiple concurrent assignmentsQualifications:5-8 years of professional transportation/traffic design engineering experience required, depending on level of educationMaster's degree a plus (may substitute for 1 year of experience)Proficiency in AutoCAD requiredProficiency in Synchro preferredBachelor's degree in civil engineering requiredProfessional Engineer (PE) licensePTOE (Professional Traffic Operations Engineer) certification a plusOur best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Watertown, MA is $105,000-$130,000.
