Some internships give you something to put on your rsum. We want to give you a skill you can use for the rest of your career. We are looking for two competitive, ambitious and highly coachable ASU students who want to learn how professional sales actually works. You do not need insurance experience. We can teach insurance.

What is much harder to teach is: drive, curiosity, resilience, initiative, competitive spirit, follow-through, and the desire to become exceptional at something. This is not a sit-and-watch internship. You will participate. You will practice. You will talk to real people. You will receive direct feedback. You will learn what worked, what did not, and try again. You will develop skills in: consultative selling, asking better questions, discovering customer needs, professional phone conversations, objection handling, prospecting and lead development, follow-up, relationship building, referral generation, CRM and pipeline management, insurance and financial-protection conversations, role-playing and sales practice, using AI to become more productive, understanding your numbers, and improving your performance.

Who we are looking for: You may be a great fit if you: are naturally competitive, like difficult goals, learn quickly, take coaching well, are comfortable talking with people, follow through, recover quickly from rejection, like measurable results, want responsibility instead of busywork, are curious about why people make decisions, want to develop a valuable professional skill before graduation, would rather be challenged than bored. Students from all majors are welcome. Professional Sales, Business, Marketing, Finance, Communications and Sports Business students may find this opportunity especially relevant.

Work directly with the agency owner. You will receive direct coaching from Sharon Layman, an established State Farm Agent/Owner who has operated her Tempe agency since 2007. You will see firsthand how an actual business turns: conversation ? opportunity ? sale ? customer relationship ? business growth. These are skills you can carry into sales, business development, leadership, financial services and management.

This could be more than one semester. We are especially interested in students who want to grow with us. For the right person, this could become a multi-year internship, with increasing responsibility as your abilities develop. Exceptional interns may also be considered for future full-time opportunities after graduation.

Compensation: Paid internship with potential performance-based earning opportunities, depending upon licensing, responsibilities and eligibility.

Licensing & Employment Requirements: Must be able to successfully pass the Arizona Property & Casualty insurance licensing exam. Prior insurance experience or licensing is not required. We are looking for the right person and will help you learn the insurance business.

Location & Schedule: Tempe, Arizona. Part-time schedule designed around ASU coursework. In person because we want you interacting with customers and teammates. Compensation: $17.00 - $25.00 per hour
