Position Overview

Krieger Scientific is hiring an Automation Instrument Technician to support instrumentation, building automation, and commissioning activities at a client facility in Indiana.

This is a hands-on technical role focused on instrument calibration, loop checks, controls verification, and troubleshooting within Johnson Controls Metasys systems. Direct, hands-on experience with Johnson Controls Metasys is required.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working in the field, identifying and resolving technical issues, and collaborating with engineering, maintenance, and commissioning teams.

Key Responsibilities

Instrumentation and Commissioning

• Perform point-to-point loop checks and verify analog and digital I/O signals.
• Calibrate and troubleshoot temperature, pressure, humidity, flow, level, and other field instruments.
• Verify wiring, signal scaling, controller configuration, and communication between field devices and control systems.
• Test valves, actuators, variable frequency drives (VFDs), alarms, and safety interlocks.
• Support functional testing and verification of control sequences.

Building Automation and Controls

• Perform hands-on operation, verification, and troubleshooting of Johnson Controls Metasys systems.
• Verify control points, commands, alarms, trends, and system functionality.
• Troubleshoot communication failures, offline devices, and field controller issues.
• Support configuration and point mapping using Metasys tools, including CCT and SCT.
• Work with BACnet and other applicable building automation communication protocols.

Documentation and Compliance

• Complete loop check sheets, calibration records, and commissioning documentation.
• Review and interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, points lists, and control sequences.
• Identify, document, and communicate deficiencies and corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate records in accordance with client procedures, safety requirements, and applicable quality standards.
• Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and client personnel to resolve technical issues.

Required Qualifications

• Direct, hands-on experience with Johnson Controls Metasys building automation systems is mandatory. Experience with other platforms alone does not satisfy this requirement.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience in instrumentation, automation, controls, or building automation systems.
• Experience performing loop checks, instrument calibration, and I/O verification.
• Ability to navigate Metasys, command and verify points, review trends, and troubleshoot system issues.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Understanding of analog and digital signals, control circuits, and HVAC equipment.
• Proficiency using multimeters, loop calibrators, and other instrumentation testing equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an active client environment.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical degree or certification in instrumentation, electronics, automation, or a related discipline.
• Johnson Controls Metasys training or certification, including experience with Controller Configuration Tool (CCT) and System Configuration Tool (SCT).
• Experience supporting pharmaceutical, biotechnology, laboratory, or other regulated facilities.
• Familiarity with GMP, commissioning and qualification (CQV), and IQ/OQ documentation.
• Experience with BACnet, PLCs, or additional building automation platforms.
• ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) certification or equivalent.
• OSHA safety training and NFPA 70E awareness.

Work Environment

• Position requires on-site work at a client facility in Indiana.
• Work may involve mechanical rooms, equipment areas, and active construction or commissioning environments.
• Must be able to use ladders, access equipment, and perform physical tasks associated with instrumentation and controls work.
• Must follow all client safety procedures, PPE requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
• Schedule flexibility may be required to support project milestones.
