Clinical Pharmacist

Job Description Summary The Specialty Clinical Pharmacist provides distributive and clinical pharmacy services to the outpatients and visitors of the Medical University Hospital and Clinics. Additional responsibilities include addressing the needs of nursing and medical personnel regarding drug disposition and usage; counseling patients and health care professionals by providing general and patient‑specific drug information; ensuring timely and medically appropriate dispensing. The Clinical Pharmacist participates in the patient management and quality programs of the Specialty Pharmacy. Key Responsibilities Provide pharmaceutical care to optimize patient outcomes. Collaborate with others to improve systems of care. Respond to questions from patients about medications and dosage instructions. Ensure that all required pharmacy data is recorded and maintained and complies with all regulatory, security, and hospital procedures. Minimum Training and Education Doctor of Pharmacy degree and completion of a pharmacy residency program, or two years of clinical or hospital pharmacy experience may substitute for the residency program. Eligibility for licensure as a Pharmacist by the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy. Required Licensure, Certifications, and Registrations Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, either from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
