Position Overview
Our organization is in search of a dynamic, enthusiastic, and collaborative individual to fill the role of Assistant/Associate/Professor of Primary Care. This full-time position will report to the Chair of the Department of Primary Care and will focus on teaching, conducting osteopathic clinical research, and providing service within the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM). The KYCOM team comprises approximately 550 medical students, 30 full-time faculty members, and various clinical partners.
KYCOM is recognized as the second-best institution among all D.O. and M.D. granting medical schools in the United States for producing graduates who practice in primary care and rural settings. Since its inception in 1997, KYCOM has been dedicated to training physicians to serve underserved and rural communities, with a strong emphasis on primary care. Located in the picturesque Appalachian Mountains near a developing regional hospital, graduates from KYCOM are well-equipped to pursue rigorous graduate medical education residencies.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver instruction in courses and associated laboratories within the KYCOM Department of Primary Care.
- Engage in and contribute to curriculum development and assessment.
- Assist in the creation of course syllabi, objectives, lecture schedules, and evaluation methods.
- Help prepare necessary materials and documentation for ongoing accreditation by the American Osteopathic Association - COCA and other accrediting bodies.
- Actively participate in appointed committees within KYCOM and the organization.
- Provide clinical services as directed by the Department Chair and KYCOM Dean, focusing on primary care.
- Offer counseling, advising, and support to students.
- Attend significant events such as Commencement, White Coat Ceremony, new student orientation, and the University Opening Convocation.
- Engage in Faculty Development activities.
- Assist in the selection process for students applying to KYCOM.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chair or KYCOM Dean.
- Must possess a D.O. degree from a COCA-accredited osteopathic medical school.
- Must be board-certified by the American Osteopathic Association or the American Board of Medical Specialties in a primary care specialty (Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Pediatrics).
- Must hold a current and unrestricted medical license from the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure.
- Must have a current and unrestricted DEA certificate.
- Preferred experience in teaching within an academic environment.
- Required clinical experience in a primary care setting.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are essential.

- A proven track record of strong character and integrity.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize tasks to complete assignments accurately and within set timeframes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Willingness to learn and utilize Learning Management Systems such as Canvas and the organization’s online platforms.
- Must demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and respect when interacting with faculty, students, and the broader community.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Alignment with the missions of the organization and KYCOM.
