Data Center Customer Operations Technician - Culpeper, VA

Job Summary IBX Customer Operations Technician at Equinix Culpeper, VA is responsible for prioritizing, fulfilling, and ensuring the quality of time‑bound ticket‑driven requests for IBX, including expedited orders, trouble tickets, smart‑hands, installation/de‑installation of cages/cabinets/cabling, custom orders, tape backups, escorts, and network, logistics, security, and cable tray support. The role is on‑site and requires regular shift rotations between day and night. Veteran Eligibility This position is open to veterans, transitioning military, National Guard and Reserve members, military spouses, wounded warriors, and their caregivers. Responsibilities Queue Management & Reporting – review work‑order requests, respond to semi‑routine tasks within commitment times, and maintain detailed written records. Escalation – expedite orders to appropriate teams and supervise non‑standard escalation requests. Installation – rack and stack semi‑routine customer equipment, support intra‑cage infrastructure installations following SOPs (fiber trays, ladder racks, customer equipment, cabinets, semi‑basic cage installs, tape changes, back‑up changes). Cross‑Connect – support standard operating cross‑connect work orders (installs, terminations, modifications, testing) and manage cable types (coax, fiber, twisted pair copper). Learn to install 'across' connect circuits under supervision. Testing & Troubleshooting – support standard operating layer‑1 cross‑connect certification testing; learn layer‑2 and layer‑3 testing under supervision. Stakeholder Partnership – partner with key Equinix teams on projects, coordinate vendors, coach new hires, collaborate with customers, and support BMS alarms. Customer Management – install/deinstall cross connects, cages, distribution trays, cabinets, perform tape changes, conduct audits, provide customer escorts, monitor stock, troubleshoot incidents, and ensure accurate reporting. Projects – support fulfillment of projects following SOPs, supervise vendor work, and conduct physical customer audits. Training – complete all assigned training promptly and assist new hires as needed. Shift – rotate between day and night shifts every six months; travel to other data centers as required. Qualifications High‑school diploma or GED. Experience with cable installation (telecom field, cable TV installers, central office, or data‑center experience). Proficiency with ticketing systems and relevant tooling. Knowledge of cross‑connect test equipment and IT computer skills. Preferred Qualifications IT industry certifications.
