Maintenance Technician

As a Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal functioning of a variety of machinery and equipment, including mixers, saws, conveyors, box makers, sealers, fryers, freezers, Raytheon machines, forklifts, separators, and baggers. Your role will involve oiling and greasing production equipment, troubleshooting, and repairing malfunctions reported by line supervisors, and test operating machinery before and after repairs.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair production equipment malfunctions.
• Inspect and maintain all production equipment as necessary and as scheduled.
• Operate drills, saws, grinders, welding apparatus, presses, and a variety of manual tools for repairs.
• Monitor and maintain building and grounds functions including plumbing, electrical wiring, and painting.
• Communicate progress of repair work and potential problems to line supervisors and incoming maintenance shifts.
• Submit requests for parts necessary for repairs and maintenance.
• Record and maintain all relevant maintenance work completed and keep a logbook of daily activities.
• Coordinate maintenance efforts with outside machinery technicians.
• Make equipment adjustments as requested by line supervisors.

Essential Skills

• Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in blueprint reading and conveyor maintenance.
• Knowledge of electrical systems and compressors.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous packaging or food manufacturing experience is advantageous.
• High School Diploma or GED is required.

Work Environment

This position has openings on the 2nd shift from 1:30-10pm, Monday through Friday. The work environment involves exposure to loud noise, food-grade dust and odors, moving and vibrating machinery, heavy equipment, powered industrial trucks, heights, traffic, anhydrous ammonia, oil, and electricity. Employees may be exposed to adverse weather conditions such as extreme cold, heat, rain, and snow. The plant contains allergens including fish, shellfish, nuts, eggs, wheat, soy, milk, and coconut.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newport News, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $33.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
