high-quality specialty coffee with a level of detail with every drink finished
beautifully. Jamtooth Bakery nourishes your body with their handcrafted goods
and together it sets the vibes for Portal West Coffee. Portal West Coffee invites
young professionals, nature lovers, hikers, families, friends and small business
supporters. Creating a space for artists, musicians, plant lovers and curious folks
who want to learn and enjoy specialty coffee. Position Summary:
This essential role of Barista and Shop Keeper executes Portal West Coffee’s
mission of delivering upon our promise of exceptional coffee executed
beautifully, providing and leading an example of hospitality. The Barista and
Shop Keeper should execute excellent coffee quality, the presentation of each
beverage beautifully, and with a focus the customer’s experience. They will
directly report to the Lead Baristas and Founder. Barista and Shop Keeper is enthusiastic, curious, and hardworking. It requires
strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and a sense of urgency with a strong work
ethic. The Barista and Shop Keeper is responsible for participating in the front of
house shift including coffee making and the hospitality experience. The right
person for the job is comfortable working in a hectic and fast-paced
environment. They show a passion for providing high-quality coffee. Core Competencies:

inventory and scheduling processes to maintain budget standards
keeping COGs and labor efficient.
• Interpersonal/Communication Skills: Demonstrates concern for team

responsibility for the success of the team.
• Taking Initiative: Approaches service and tasks with high energy
and a sense of urgency. Tackles day-to-day challenges with
effective problem-solving and ownership.
• Teamwork: Supports and leads teamwork through encouragement
during shifts. Essential Job Functions and Key Responsibilities:
• Make great coffee
• Enjoy interacting with customers and team members
• Perform basic cash-handling
• Open and/or close the shop regularly
• Cleaning all areas of the café including restrooms and
outside areas
• Stock and monitor inventory
• Document and minimize waste
• Clock in/out and report tips accurately Shop Operations:
• Maintains daily operations by arriving on time as scheduled
• Attire meets personal presentation standards
• Supports the care for each beverage served and handles bakery
products with care
• Supports receiving shipments from vendors, ensuring product arrived
and is represented on packing slip
• Follow all beverage recipes and processes and procedures to
standard
• Successfully follows procedures for opening and closing Portal West
Coffee
• Supports team members by being respectful and communicating
when working together Recommended Skills and Education:
• 5 or more years in service hospitality industry in leadership
• Able to multitask
• Possess math skills and can operate various platforms for shop operations.
• Navigating an iPad/Tablet and necessary applications within it for daily
operations Physical Demands:
The Barista + Shop Keeper is expected to be able to perform job functions with
reasonable accommodation. Physical demands include:
• Remaining standing in a stationary position and walking throughout the
facility for extended periods of time each day
• Reaches, bends, squatting, and lifting (up to 60lbs); carries 20-50lbs
over short distances
• Must be able to lift 50lbs throughout the day Compensation:
• $11/hour + tips
• 60 Day Peer Review to assess and celebrate progress Benefits:
