PeaceHealth Southwest is seeking a New Grad RN - Neurology for our upcoming Nurse Residency Program at Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, Washington. This 0.9 FTE night position is an exceptional opportunity for new graduate nurses to join a program designed to foster technical expertise, compassionate care and professional growth.

Our 12-month transition-to-practice program offers interactive, evidence-based curriculum that builds clinical skills, leadership and confidence in the professional nurse role. • Medical, Surgical, Oncology, Neurology, Cardiology, ICU step down.

What you bring:

• Recent RN graduate (within 12 month) or a RN licensed less than 12 months with less than 6 months of Acute Care experience
• Active Washington RN license by date of hire
• American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers certification by date of hire.
• Able to participate in all program activities throughout the 12-month residency period
• Ability to work a minimum of 36 hours/week, variable shifts and shift lengths and rotate per union standards

The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $52.22 $77.59. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.

Job Summary

Provides professional nursing direct patient care in compliance with professional practice and unit standards. Promotes a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach towards patients, families and all members of the care delivery team.

Essential Functions

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs.
• Documents patient care in the healthcare record according to established standards.
• Directs and delegates care to other team members in accordance with their education, credentials, and demonstrated competence.
• Ensures own professional effectiveness through education and professional development.
• Participates in the development of and maintains established hospital policies, procedures and objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection prevention program.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• PCU - Nursing care of stroke patients with cardiac co-morbidity or more frequent monitoring than can be provided on the floor. Care of patients post Carotid Artery Stenting and coiling of non-ruptured aneurysms. Performance of NIHSS, nursing bedside swallow screen. Perform stroke patient education utilizing health literacy education principles. Neurology and Resource Pool Nursing care of ischemic, TIAs, and non-traumatic hemorrhagic strokes. Performance of NIHSS, nursing bedside swallow screen. Perform stroke patient education utilizing health literacy education principles. Familiar with stroke guideline driven stroke discharge medications. Nursing care of ischemic, TIAs, and non-traumatic hemorrhagic strokes. Performance of NIHSS, nursing bedside swallow screen. Perform stroke patient education utilizing health literacy education principles.

Qualifications

Education

• Accredited School of Nursing Required
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.

Experience

• Experienced RN or New Graduate RN (or equivalent education and/or experience). If new grad with fewer than 12 months of experience, the RN will participate in the Nurse Residency program.
• Knowledge of stroke guideline driven stroke discharge medications is preferred.

Credentials

• Registered Nurse
• Basic Life Support

Skills

• Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient's needs.
• Demonstrated ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships and patient/family centered work environment.
• Able to support and interpret medical center philosophy, policy and procedures.
• Basic computer skills.

Working Conditions

• Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
• Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
• Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force (i.e., WOW, medical carts).
• Perform hands on CPR at least 20 mins using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA) Frequency should be seldom or occasionally.
• Ability to move around area with frequent sitting.
• Bending/ stooping/ squatting/ reaching/ kneeling frequently.
• Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.
• Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
• Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.
• Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
• Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
