About the Position

Job Title: Nursing Manager/Director, Nurse Educator Profession: Nursing Specialty: Nursing Manager/Director, Nurse Educator Duration: 13 months Shift: M-F - Days Hours per Shift: 40 Experience: Minimum 8 years License: Active Alaska license required. Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS required; TNCC instructor certification preferred. Must-Have: 3 years of professional clinical instructor experience required. 5 years of professional nursing experience with a minimum of 2 years as a staff RN in a specialty (ER, ICU, OB, OR) required. Description: Maintains an ongoing clinical education program for clinical staff to meet regulatory requirements with required certifications and competencies. Provides support services to internal and external customers under direct supervision, with latitude for independent decision-making. Designs, teaches, and evaluates training programs. Acts as an internal training and organizational development consultant. Provides career development resources. Plans, implements, coordinates, and administers clinical specialty training programs, including human patient simulator training. Provides educational and developmental services to both professional and non-professional staff to maintain and develop competency. Oversees the trauma registrar program to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements. Works with outlying clinics to support the trauma program and designation by assisting in setting up the program, overseeing registries, and maintaining designations. Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities: Researches and maintains current regulations and standards relevant to the clinical practice area. Ensures educational activities are congruent with the organization's mission, goals, values, priorities, and resources. Promotes the organization's standards of excellence. Is responsible for the coordination for regulatory requirements with certifications including BLS, PALS, ACLS, and TNCC. Maintains effective working relations with colleagues at all levels and from all professions within the organization, ensuring effective communication. Partners with site and department managers to identify clinical education needs and best practices for educational maintenance. Leads the clinical education team to develop and coordinate planned educational programs for all nursing staff. Collaborates with departments on education quality concerning the clinical learning environment. Serves as the liaison for clinical education opportunities provided by the organization. Facilitates communication with other health care providers in the community related to continuing education opportunities and coordination of services. Participates in and uses evidence-based research to identify strategies for improving professional development activities, nursing practice, and patient outcomes. Oversees the trauma registrar program and works with trauma coordinators to meet state requirements. Assists in trauma education for facilities and attends and participates in Nursing Service’s goal setting. Completes annual competencies and evaluation materials. Addresses employee concerns consistent with Human Resources policy. Supervises the trauma registrar program at designated sites. Coordinates schedules of instructors for classes throughout the organization. Supervises the pediatric hybrid program and assists in rotating staff through simulation labs. Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing. Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license required. High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience Required: 3 years of professional clinical instructor experience. 5 years of professional nursing experience with a minimum of 2 years as a staff RN in a specialty (ER, ICU, OB, OR). Two years of supervisory experience required. Knowledge of: Professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, diagnosis, processes, and procedures as applied to patient care. Specialized knowledge in nursing management and care of adult and geriatric patient problems. Relevant educational content and effective delivery methods for adult learners. Skills in: Collaborating in developing and evaluating standards of care for patients and training modalities that are evidence-based. Conducting comprehensive evaluations of all educational activities. Oral and written communication. Ability to develop and implement training programs that follow curriculum standards. Initiating treatments, medications, emergency, and resuscitative measures based on proper utilization of standing orders and ACLS. Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, and healthcare team members. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
