Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele experience License: Required RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: 18 months Med/Tele experience BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Description: This is a Registered Nurse position in a Medical-Surgical and Telemetry unit. The unit consists of 23 beds with an average daily census of 21 patients. The facility is a teaching hospital with a Trauma Level III designation. The unit frequently deals with patients experiencing chest pain, stroke rules, syncope, dizziness, and respiratory illnesses. Staffing ratios are approximately 1:4-5 for RNs and 1:7 during the day and 1:10 at night for CNAs. Nurses will be responsible for general Med/Tele skill sets, including stroke experience and cardiac rhythm interpretation. Other responsibilities include trach care, peripheral IV starts, chest tube management, and nasogastric tube placement. Nurses will manage drains, tubes, and PCA pumps. Medication management will include cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and intravenous fluids. Support within the department includes a supervisor and charge RN. There will be a respiratory therapist available 24/7, alongside hospitalists who are not dedicated to this unit specifically. Phlebotomy support will be a combined effort between RNs and an IV team. The electronic medical record system in use is EPIC, and IV pumps are from Alaris. Travel nurses may be required to float to other nursing units based on patient care needs and staffing demands. Floating may occur across multiple facilities within a specified region. Weekend rotation will be every other weekend, and travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off can be approved up to 6 days, excluding holidays. The scheduled shift times will be from 0650 to 1910 or 1850 to 0710 every 6 weeks. The unit promotes a great team environment, including a book club and social activities.
