Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Post Anesthesia Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 09:00-21:00 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Current Registered Nurse license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: Trauma experience, pediatric experience Description: The position involves working in a Post Anesthesia Care Unit. The unit has 40 beds with a patient ratio of 1:2. Staffing includes a healthcare unit coordinator available from 7:30 AM to 4 PM. Four patient care technicians are scheduled each day and are assigned to specific pods. They can perform lab draws, catheterizations, and patient transport. Standard PACU equipment is utilized. Documentation is done through a specific electronic health record system. Scheduling requires six-week schedules in advance with three call shifts. Floating is within the peri-anesthesia areas, which include Endoscopy, PreOp, and Phase II. The required skills include ventilator monitoring and NIH Stroke Scale experience. Advanced skills are necessary for a variety of planned procedures. Surgical green or navy scrubs are the required uniform. Unit guidelines and policies are provided for new staff.
