Cardiac Catheterization Radiology Technologist

Job Summary The Cardiology Technologist in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory provides technical support during invasive cardiovascular procedures and basic patient care under the supervision of nursing staff. The technologist helps maintain order and cleanliness of the department. Responsibilities General Patient Care Follow policies for direct patient care. Plan and provide patient comfort and hygiene. Perform frequent rounds noting condition, requests, and environment. Perform EKGs and assist with patient admission, discharge, and transfers. Assist nurses and physicians with procedures, prepare rooms, and apply sterile drapes. Document patient history in the Cath lab charting system under RN direction. Technical Support during catheterization procedures Accurately connect patients to EKG monitors and set up arterial/venous lines. Operate equipment (hemodynamic monitor, imaging, oximeters, contrast injectors, etc.) and maintain supplies. Ensure equipment and supplies are available and properly stored. Dispose of waste and notify departments to maintain a safe environment. Catheter and Sheath Removal Assess groin site and peripheral pulses, check vital signs, and compress vessels. Provide post-procedural instructions to patients. Operations Coordinator Assistance Order supplies and send clean supplies for sterilization. Assist with inventory counting. Communication Obtain care instructions from nurses and report patient condition changes. Document procedures and answer the telephone courteously. Attentively address needs of patients, families, visitors, and physicians. Safety & Infection Control Practice universal precautions and dispose of hazardous waste. Maintain a safe, clean environment, including clutter-free spaces and minimal noise. Adhere to dress code and identify annual mandatory requirements. Identify patients with two unique identifiers and ensure proper room cleaning. Service Standards Provide courteous, respectful service and meet patients’ physical, spiritual, psychological, and emotional needs. Explain procedures and education clearly and maintain confidentiality. Collaborate with coworkers and other departments, use resources wisely, and recommend efficiency improvements. Personal Accountability Respond to supervisors, participate in learning opportunities, and complete mandatory requirements. Be punctual, resourceful, identify problems, and provide assistance. Performance Improvement Assist with unit-based improvement plans, collect data, develop action plans, and participate in research. Age-Appropriate Care Attend or complete annual age‑specific in‑service and perform assessments involving families or guardians. Determine immunization status and request consultations for special needs. Requirements Minimum Education: High school graduate. Preferred: Registered Radiology Technologist, CCI credential for Cath lab, or equivalent experience. Minimum Experience: Previous Cath Lab experience. Required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS) preferred. Work Location: Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin (Illinois if state permits). Shift: Variable (United States). Scheduled Hours: 40 hours per week. Working Conditions Regular exposure to blood‑borne pathogens, radiation, and potential hazardous environments. Requires wearing protective apparel such as lead aprons, eye protection, sterile and non‑sterile gloves, and masks. The role may involve emergency care and irregular hours, and Physical Requirements include prolonged standing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and frequent stooping or bending.
