Role Description The Freelance Interpreter will provide on-site, real-time interpretation for clients in Detroit, MI, ensuring clear and accurate communication between parties in various settings, such as medical appointments, legal meetings, community programs, and business engagements. This full-time role includes listening carefully to speakers, conveying messages faithfully in the target language, and maintaining cultural and contextual accuracy. The interpreter will prepare for assignments by reviewing relevant terminology and materials, follow professional standards of confidentiality and impartiality, and document completed sessions as required. The role may involve coordinating schedules with the AZ Language Services team, arriving punctually at assigned locations, and adapting to diverse environments and subject matter. Qualifications Strong proficiency in English and at least one other language commonly served by AZ Language Services (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, Haitian Creole). Demonstrated interpreting skills in community, medical, legal, or business settings, with the ability to convey meaning accurately and neutrally. Knowledge of professional ethics, confidentiality standards, and culturally sensitive communication practices. Ability to work on-site in Detroit, MI, manage a full-time freelance schedule, and handle multiple assignments reliably. Excellent listening, memory, and note-taking skills, with strong verbal communication and interpersonal abilities.
