The Opportunity We’re looking for a hands-on EE/power electronics intern to build and run the electrical test setups that measure how PeraWatt’s soft magnetic cores perform. You’ll wind test windings, assemble measurement fixtures, wire up instrumentation, and capture the magnetic performance data that drives our materials development. If you like working with your hands on real hardware and seeing a materials breakthrough proven out on the bench, this is that opportunity. You’ll work on-site at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, alongside PeraWatt’s technical and founding team, gaining experience with real power-magnetics testing in a professional research environment. What You’ll Work On Building and wiring electrical test setups: winding toroidal cores, assembling fixtures and jigs, and connecting instrumentation for magnetic and loss characterization Running measurements such as B-H hysteresis loops, core loss vs. frequency and flux density, permeability, impedance/inductance, and DC-bias behavior Working hands-on with bench instrumentation: impedance/LCR and network analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and power amplifiers Capturing, organizing, and processing data: recording measurements, computing core loss, and plotting results to support materials development Supporting the technical team with sample prep, cabling, equipment maintenance, and lab organization as needed Who You Are Pursuing a Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, EECS, Applied Physics, or a related field. Exceptional undergraduates will also be considered. Experience in the use of benchtop instruments such as signal generators, power supplies, oscilloscopes, and other electrical test instruments Comfortable building electrical setups: prototyping with breadboards, soldering, and simple PCB design Experience building or debugging test setups is a must Detail-oriented with strong data recording and organizational habits Self-starter who thrives without much oversight, shows up consistently, and owns their work Genuinely interested in energy, power electronics, magnetics, or how lab science becomes a real product Details Duration: Ongoing, with flexible start and end dates arranged around your academic schedule Hours: Part-time, approximately 15-25 hours per week (flexible scheduling around coursework). Compensation: Paid hourly; rate varies by level of study and experience This position requires access to a US Department of Energy national laboratory.
