Child Life Specialist: Pediatric Subspecialty Clinics-Days

Job Overview Location: New York, New York Shift: Day (United States of America) Child Life Specialist – Pediatric Subspecialty Clinics (Day) at NewYork-Presbyterian Komansky Children’s Hospital. Our Certified Child Life Specialists provide trauma‑informed, culturally reflexive psychosocial support to children and caregivers in the outpatient setting, working closely with the interdisciplinary team. The role includes assessing emotional, developmental, and educational needs, delivering individualized interventions, and fostering a safe, supportive clinical environment throughout patient care. Responsibilities Work from a trauma‑informed and culturally responsive practice to support each patient and family. Assess patients’ emotional, developmental, and educational needs and deliver individualized interventions. Provide interventions such as preparation and education for medical encounters, therapeutic and medical play, emotional support, and self‑expression. Promote adaptive coping, reduce distress, and support developmental integrity. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across pediatric subspecialty clinics. Advocate for family‑centered care and cultural responsiveness. Qualifications Preferred: 1–2 years paid professional experience with hospitalized children. Required: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Child Life, Child Development, or a closely related field. Child Life Council verified internship hours (minimum 480 hours). Certified Child Life Specialist credential. Knowledge of child development, medical terminology, and developmental/therapeutic play. Schedule & Benefits Monday‑Friday days, 4 weekends per year, and 1 holiday every other year. All roles require on‑site presence; employees should live within commutable distance to NYP. Travel expenses are not reimbursed. Salary Range: $40.30–$46.35 per hour. Comprehensive benefits supporting the employee and their family.
