Network Engineer

Network Engineer (Onsite – Tallahassee, FL) Optomi, in partnership with a leading IT consulting organization, is seeking a Network Engineer to join an enterprise infrastructure team in Tallahassee, FL. This engineer will play a key role in supporting a large-scale, mission-critical networking environment by resolving complex operational issues while contributing to infrastructure modernization initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong Cisco networking experience, enjoy troubleshooting enterprise environments, and be comfortable balancing day-to-day operational support with hands‑on project work. This is an opportunity to make an immediate impact within a highly available environment supporting critical public infrastructure while working alongside experienced network engineering professionals. This position requires an onsite presence five days per week in Tallahassee, FL. What the right candidate will enjoy! Working in a large-scale Cisco enterprise environment supporting mission-critical infrastructure. Contributing to impactful projects including data center modernization, disaster recovery, and network enhancements. Collaborating with an experienced network engineering team while gaining exposure to modern Cisco technologies and enterprise networking best practices. Experience of the right candidate: 3+ years of experience as a Network Engineer supporting enterprise networking environments. Strong hands‑on experience with Cisco networking technologies, including Catalyst switching and enterprise routing. Experience configuring and troubleshooting VLANs, routing, switching, and overall network infrastructure. Experience supporting large-scale enterprise environments with high availability requirements. Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex network issues. Experience working with Cisco ACI, Cisco Software Defined Access (SDA), and Cisco ISE is highly preferred. Familiarity with firewall configuration, network segmentation, and secure enterprise networking. Experience supporting data center networking and disaster recovery environments is a plus. Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with senior engineers and cross‑functional infrastructure teams. Self‑starter who is comfortable managing operational responsibilities while contributing to infrastructure improvement projects. Responsibilities of the right candidate: Resolve escalated network support tickets and troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues. Diagnose and resolve network performance, connectivity, and configuration problems across enterprise environments. Support daily operational engineering activities after issues elevate beyond the Help Desk and Systems teams. Configure and maintain Cisco networking infrastructure, including Catalyst switches, VLANs, routing, and switching. Assist with infrastructure modernization initiatives including data center upgrades, network expansion, disaster recovery, and high availability projects. Implement network segmentation, firewall updates, and other security‑focused infrastructure improvements. Perform delegated engineering tasks under the direction of the Lead Network Engineer. Support enterprise network infrastructure improvements while maintaining stability across mission‑critical systems. Collaborate with infrastructure and systems teams to ensure reliable, secure, and scalable network operations. Document network changes, configurations, and troubleshooting efforts while following established operational and government security standards.
