Company Description Levy Educational Advocacy provides child-centered, collaborative, and goal-oriented educational advocacy for learners ages 3–22. The organization partners with parents and caregivers to help them make informed decisions about their child’s education and to navigate complex school systems with confidence. Advocates support families across all phases of need, from initial concerns about disabilities through Response-to-Intervention/Multi-Tiered Systems of Support and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). Through the Levy Way, the team emphasizes organized, personalized, and calm guidance while prioritizing each child’s unique needs. Solutions are designed to be purposeful, actionable, and creatively strategized to help learners access the services and placements they need to thrive. Role Description The advocate will work as an independent contractor (1099) directly with parents and caregivers to review educational records, interpret evaluations, and identify appropriate supports, services, and placements. Day-to-day responsibilities include attending and facilitating school meetings (e.g., IEP, 504, and planning meetings), preparing written correspondence, and developing advocacy plans tailored to each learner’s needs. The advocate will collaborate closely with school teams, related service providers, and external professionals to promote student-centered solutions. Additional duties include maintaining detailed case documentation, staying current on relevant special education laws and policies, and contributing to family workshops, trainings, or outreach efforts as needed. Qualifications Special Education background and/or School Psychology in the state of Connecticut. Strong advocacy and case management skills, including experience supporting students with IEPs, 504 plans, or within MTSS/RTI frameworks. Knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations (e.g., IDEA, Section 504), preferably with familiarity specific to Connecticut and New England. Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills for working with families, educators, and multidisciplinary teams. Proficiency in reviewing and interpreting educational records, assessments, and progress data to inform recommendations. Organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple cases, deadlines, and meetings in a fast-paced environment. Ability to maintain a calm, solutions-focused, and culturally responsive approach when navigating complex or emotionally charged situations. Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, social work, psychology, or a related field; advanced degree or specialized training in advocacy is a plus. Prior experience as an educational advocate, special educator, school psychologist, counselor, or related role working with children and families is strongly preferred.
