Central Sterile Supply TechnicianNaval Medical Center San Diego - San Diego, CA 92134Salary Range $36.00 - $41.09 Hourly Position Type Full Time Job Shift Any Category Health CareDescriptionNaval Medical Center San Diego – San Diego, CACompass Government Solutions is currently recruiting qualified Central Sterile Supply Technicians (SPD) to provide sterile processing support services at Naval Medical Center San Diego in San Diego, California.This is an opportunity to support surgical readiness and patient care in a military medical center environment by ensuring reusable medical equipment and surgical instrumentation are properly cleaned, sterilized, assembled, and prepared for clinical use.Work ScheduleServices shall be provided Monday through Friday between the hours of 0600–0559, with coverage primarily needed during night shifts.Shifts may be scheduled as:8-hour shifts with an uncompensated 30-minute lunch break10-hour shifts for any four days between Monday and Friday with an uncompensated 60-minute lunch breakScheduling is based on departmental needs. In no instance will the Healthcare Worker (HCW) be required to provide services more than 80 hours per two-week period.Typical Shift Coverage ExamplesPM Shifts:1245–2245 (4×10)1445–2245 (5×8)Night Shifts:2045–0645 (4×10, Monday–Thursday)Duty Hours: NoneOn-Call Hours: NoneCall-Back Hours: NoneOverage Hours: NoneJob Duties:Receive, disassemble, and inspect reusable medical devices and surgical instrumentation for damageReceive and properly dispose of regulated medical waste, general waste, and soiled linenComply with OSHA regulations regarding the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) while working in decontamination areasDetermine appropriate methods of decontamination, including removal of blood, tissue fragments, body fluids, and other contaminantsPerform decontamination procedures using wiping, soaking, rinsing, scrubbing, ultrasonic equipment, and washer sterilization/decontamination systemsExamine instruments and equipment after decontamination to ensure contaminants have been removed and items function properlyEnsure all medical devices and surgical instrumentation are properly labeled and identifiedAssemble and prepare specialty trays and instrument setsSelect appropriate wrapping and packaging materials for medical devices and surgical instrument setsSelect and perform sterilization processes in accordance with standard Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) procedures, including:Ethylene Oxide (ETO) SterilizationSteam SterilizationMaintain sterile processing workflow standards to support safe and efficient patient care operationsQualificationsEducationCompletion of a central sterile supply training course requiredCertificationMust possess one of the following current certifications:International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM), orNational Institute for Certification in Healthcare Sterile Processing and Distribution (NICHSPDP)ExperienceMinimum of one year of experience within the last two years as a Central Sterile Supply TechnicianRequired Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of sterile processing procedures, decontamination standards, and infection control practicesFamiliarity with surgical instrumentation and reusable medical equipmentAbility to follow detailed sterilization and packaging procedures accuratelyStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to work independently and in a fast-paced healthcare environmentStrong communication and teamwork skillsAbility to maintain professionalism in a military healthcare setting
