Position Assistant Camp Director – Salary: $17.50 per hour. Key Responsibilities Ensure all campers have a fun, enriching, and safe experience. Assist with planning and implement the Y camp program according to the goals and policies of the Y and the camp curriculum. Provide leadership to camp counselors, including training and daily supervision. Ensure daily schedule of activities is carried out for all groups of campers. Conduct weekly team meetings and provide performance feedback on a daily basis. Ensure counselors have daily schedules and appropriate supplies and resources to deliver a quality program. Be responsible for camper safety and security. Ensure adherence to the policies of the Y. Motivate, energize and encourage counselors to deliver outstanding programming and customer service daily. Participate in staff trainings and meetings as required. Qualifications Work from the week before camp begins for training through the end of the final week of the season. High school graduate. 21 years of age. Willing to participate in and obtain CPR and First Aid Certification. Clear local jurisdiction requirements for criminal background and/or fingerprinting. Meet county/state licensing requirements. At least two summers of experience in day camp, recreation, physical education, teaching, or working with school‑age children. Prior experience assisting supervising staff. Work well in groups. Effective communication with children and parents. Physical Requirements Stand or sit for prolonged periods of time. Be physically active to play games and sports with the children. Pick up at least 35 pounds. Have visual acuity to observe all children. Benefits Competitive compensation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist the Camp Director with administrative or supervisory duties. Substitute for counselors or oversee a group of campers in addition to other duties. Assure staff-to-child ratios, lesson plans and daily schedules are in place and followed. Provide guidance, leadership, or training to other employees. Directly responsible for supervising non‑exempt, clerical, or office administration personnel, exempt, professional, or technical employees, and supervisory/managerial employees. Ensure adequate safety procedures for the class being taught. Assist in supervising day camp staff and ensuring each carries out daily schedules. Review and discuss any problems with staff or campers with the camp director. Document camper attendance, absenteeism and incidents for each child in compliance with policies. Ensure counselors have daily lesson plans and necessary supplies. Maintain camper safety and security; ensure adherence to Y policies. Ensure all staff and campers abide by Aquatics Policies and Procedures related to camp programs. Communicate with parents regarding their child’s experience. Assist in post‑camp evaluation at end of each camp session. Monitor hourly head counts of children by group daily. Ensure all camper emergency records are complete. Motivate and encourage counselors to deliver outstanding programming and customer service. Support program goals of YMCA and branch. Other duties as required. Be proactive and responsive to parents' needs when concerns occur with their child. Provide safe and clean environment for all kids. Be knowledgeable about other service area programs and offerings. Build lasting positive relationships with parents and their kids. Training Requirements Facility Orientation. Child Care Policy / Prevention of child abuse. Staff/Parent Handbook.
