Quality Assurance Engineer

Remote, Canada or US Duration - 3+ months

You will be the quality owner across the stack, balancing hands-on manual testing with designing and scaling automation frameworks. You'll work closely with developers and product owners to ensure our platform maintains the highest reliability as we continue to grow in complexity.

Our current QA architecture is built around a three-tier testing strategy: unit, integration, and end-to-end, implemented in TypeScript with Jest and Playwright. You'll enhance and expand this foundation, integrating quality gates into our CI/CD pipelines and driving QA excellence across the engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

Testing Strategy & Ownership

• Define and execute a comprehensive QA strategy combining manual, exploratory, and automated testing
• Own the three-tier testing architecture:

1. Unit tests (.spec.ts) validating core business logic
2. Integration tests (.integration.spec.ts) covering repositories, database, and service interactions
3. E2E tests (*.e2e-spec.ts) verifying complete API and UI workflows

• Develop and maintain automated Playwright test suites for frontend workflows across multiple viewports and devices
• Extend backend test coverage using Jest for business logic, repositories, and REST/GraphQL APIs
• Integrate test execution into GitHub Actions for automated quality gates, test result reporting, and artifact management
• Manage test data factories, fixtures, and mocks to ensure deterministic test environments
• Document test cases, regression suites, and QA standards in alignment with business requirements
• Collaborate in Linear for bug triage, test planning, and visibility

Manual & Exploratory Testing

• Execute functional, regression, and exploratory testing across the platform
• Validate complex multi-step workflows (e.g., scheduling, resource assignment, approval chains)
• Perform cross-browser compatibility and responsive UI testing across desktop and tablet devices
• Validate accessibility and usability compliance (WCAG, aXe, or similar)

Continuous Improvement & Leadership

• Define QA best practices for automation, code review, and test reliability
• Mentor developers in writing high-quality unit and integration tests
• Analyze flaky tests, performance issues, and test failures using observability tools
• Drive initiatives for continuous quality improvement, test coverage expansion, and pipeline reliability

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years in software QA, with at least 2+ years in test automation using TypeScript
• Strong experience with Playwright (preferred) or Cypress for web automation
• Proficiency in Jest for unit and integration testing
• Deep understanding of software testing methodologies, frameworks, and CI/CD automation
• Experience with GitHub Actions for running and reporting tests
• Strong analytical, debugging, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently in a lean, fast-paced environment

Nice to Have

• Experience testing GraphQL APIs and complex data workflows
• Familiarity with Next.js, React Testing Library, and component-level testing
• Understanding of performance and accessibility testing
• Experience testing enterprise-grade or multi-tenant SaaS platforms
