McLaughlin Research Corp. is hiring an Accountant with 5-8 years relevant experience in New London CT.  This position performs a wide variety of accounting duties in connection with the month end financial closing and preparation of financial statements as well as tax filings and required reporting.

•    Prepare monthly journal entries, ensuring all activity is recorded and adjustments/ corrections are made
•    Provide detailed analysis of various general ledger accounts and prepare appropriate reconciliations
•    Monitor account transaction activity to ensure accurate and appropriate recording of revenues, expenses, assets and liabilities
•    Maintain Chart of Accounts, Cost Pools and Financial Statement Configuration
•    Prepare Monthly and Year end closings
•    Prepare annual work papers and assist outside auditors
•    Maintain fixed assets and depreciation schedules
•    Prepare and file various returns including sales and use tax, state and local tax, W-2, ACA forms

Other responsibilities include:

•    Review accounts payable and sign checks
•    Prepare applications and allocations of various business insurances
•    Retirement Plan over-site and 5500 Filing
•    Work closely with the accounting team to ensure timely and accurate financial information.

Job Requirements

• Familiar with GAAP
• Proficient in MS Excel
• Possess excellent written and oral communication skills
• Extremely well organized and able to handle multiple tasks within specific deadlines
• Highly detail-oriented

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
• DoD/government contractor-based accounting experience
• Familiarity with Cost Pools
• Experience with Deltek Costpoint
