With a growing portfolio of commercial property parcels, King County's Department of Assessments is looking for interested applicants to apply for the Commercial Appraiser I position to develop models and determine the true and fair value of commercial property for tax-assessment purposes. King County's Department of Assessments is looking for a dynamic and collaborative commercial appraiser to support the daily administration of the County's commercial property valuation for tax-assessment purposes. We are looking for action oriented creative thinkers who can multi-task and bring their property appraisal skills and desire for excellence to this role. This position will focus on commercial property valuation and customer service and support to help the department achieve its commitment to be "The Best Assessments Department in North America".

This position serves a vital role in meeting our mission of setting fair and equitable property values, the primary service we provide to taxpayers. This role involves daily interaction with staff and the public, requiring collaborative skills, a strong grounding in commercial property assessment, excellent problem solving and analytical skills, and the ability to work in a culturally and generationally diverse team-oriented environment. We will use this recruitment to fill one vacancy and to create a list of eligible applicants for future vacancies.

The department uses a mass appraisal process, which is the use of standardized procedures and mathematical calculations for collecting and appraising property to ensure that all properties within a municipality are valued uniformly and equitably. We are searching for a commercial/residential appraisal professional with strong customer service skills and commercial/residential appraisal knowledge who is looking to join our team of appraisal professionals. Specifically: To use your grounding in general appraisal knowledge, excellent analytical and problem solving skills, and ability to work within a culturally and generationally diverse environment to collaboratively set fair and equitable commercial property values. To use your communication skills to communicate property assessment policies and procedures to the taxpayers we serve. Just like the industry leaders in our region, we are looking for action-oriented creative thinkers who are able to multi-task and bring their analytical and technical skills and desire for excellence to our team. Use your strong math aptitude and knowledge of the real estate markets with us. Our collaborative work environment welcomes employee input with our business processes.

Strong organizational, analytical, communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a collaborative, team environment. Customer focus with a dedication to integrity, ethics, trust, and values. A genuine interest in commercial/residential real estate which may include field inspections in different settings and environmental conditions. The ability to read and understand building construction plans, specifications, and blueprints with an aptitude for spatial relationships. Proficiency and ease in using business productivity tools and cutting edge technology in your everyday work (We use iPads, Microsoft Office Suite and other assessment related tools) Exceptional listening skills and the ability to keep up with evolving business needs through flexibility and rapid integration of new concepts. Confidence in making decisions with problem solving, time management, and organizational skills. A state issued appraiser license is desirable though not required upon hire. Or, any combination of education and/or experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties of the position above.

Possession of an Assessor's Accreditation Certificate as required by the state of Washington, or the ability to complete the accreditation within one year of hire. Foreign language skills, in addition to core commercial appraisal experience, are a desirable applicant characteristic for this position.

This position is represented by the Teamsters Local 0763 collective bargaining agreement. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday or Tuesday through Friday, 8.75 hours per day, 35 hours per week. Work will primarily be performed at 201 South Jackson Street, Seattle, WA 98104, including hybrid work, support for field/site inspections, and remote work.

Possession of an Assessor's Accreditation Certificate as required by the state of Washington, or the ability to successfully obtain accreditation within the first twelve (12) months of employment; Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Washington State driver's license. Successfully complete background and reference checks and a pre-employment physical examination.
