Each year our attorneys, volunteers, and staff help resolve civil legal problems, including domestic violence, consumer fraud, and unfair evictions. Job Description Legal Aid Chicago is seeking a staff attorney in the Long‑Term Care Practice Group. Responsibilities Provide full and effective legal representation to individuals Co‑counsel with other attorneys and paralegals Achieve and maintain knowledge of the various areas of law, including state and federal laws regulating long‑term care facilities, Medicare and Medicaid laws, regulations and rules, and other issues facing elderly and disabled clients. Represent clients in court and administrative hearings, including involuntary discharge hearings and Medicaid appeal hearings. Conduct outreach regarding legal issues affecting residents of long‑term care and the Ombudsman program. Maintain proficiency with all equipment, computer hardware and software necessary to perform the duties of the position Qualifications Legal Aid Chicago encourages applications from individuals with relevant experience, particularly those who have direct experience with communities we serve or perspectives that help us understand and serve our clients better. Applicants must have a J.D. degree and be a member of the Illinois Bar or expect to be sworn in to the Illinois Bar. In addition the successful candidate will have: Excellent research, writing, and litigation skills. Ability to use technology creatively. Familiarity with long‑term care issues and/or public benefits is not required but is a plus. Pay scale and benefits This position is part of the National Organization of Legal Services Workers, UAW Local 2320. The Collective Bargaining Agreement sets employment terms and compensation is determined by the CBA salary scale, based on paid experience. The budgeted salary range for this position is $70,822–$77,872, which reflects 0‑10 years of paid, credited experience.
