OTR CDL Driver

Purpose of Job OTR drivers transport various goods and equipment over long distances. They secure cargo to prevent damage during transportation, maintain detailed records of the number of hours traveled, mileage covered, and rest periods, as well as assist in the loading and unloading of cargo. Role and Responsibilities OTR, Long distance driving Performing truck inspections before and after each trip to ensure that all mechanical systems are in good working order. Communicating and coordinating with Doyle’s Transportation Department and customers to ensure smooth delivery and setup. Carefully planning routes to ensure that deliveries are completed in a timely manner, thus meeting delivery deadlines. Must obey and follow all traffic laws. Securing Loads properly and always being safety minded when loading and unloading equipment. Maintaining and following all E-LOG guidelines of working hours in compliance with State and Federal regulations Some hands-on mechanical skills are required when unloading and setting up equipment. Our trucks come equipped with knuckle boom cranes to assist with the unloading of equipment. Performing basic truck maintenance Following the best safety practices for on the road, loading, and unloading - safety first, quality always Taking pictures of equipment when it’s first loaded and unloaded at the customer’s location. Obtaining customer signatures/sign offs for delivery when needed. Promptly report any traffic violations, road accidents, and vehicle breakdowns to management. Notifying the Transportation Department of any delay that may affect scheduled deliveries. Qualifications and Education Requirements Valid, Class A CDL Strong knowledge of road safety regulations and traffic laws Good communication and coordination skills Preferred Skills Previous OTR Driving Experience Mechanically inclined and hands on work experience Crane operating experience or similar types of equipment Working Conditions Normally working from the cab of a piece of mobile equipment but occasionally involved in manual labor. Sometimes exposed to heat, cold, inclement weather, noise, vibration, grease, oil, and diesel fuel. Protocols Arrive at Doyle Transportation building prepared for work on Monday morning at 7 a.m. unless otherwise scheduled. Be dressed in provided uniform and ready for work. Uniform is to be clean and neat to represent Doyle in the best possible fashion. When performing any pre-trip or yard work (non-driving), you must be clocked-in to record hours worked. No paper time sheets will be accepted. Ensure that the required paperwork is prepared and complete for each load, including the completion of a Pre-Trip Inspection. Ensure all loads are secured. If the load was strapped prior to departure date, be sure to complete a recheck of the load. This does not mean reloading equipment. Refueling trucks: All trucks must be topped off with fuel before leaving the Doyle facility. When transporting loads all FMCSA rules will be followed. Which includes but is not limited to the following: “Hours of Service” Limits section, page 7 of FMCSA Compliance Manual – On-Duty Time definition: “…all time from the time a driver begins to work or is required to be in readiness to work until the time the driver is relieved from work and all responsibility for performing work.” Always be aware that when driving over the road you are a Doyle employee and must represent the company as an employee, including adherence to the Core Values. Use of Company supplied Credit Cards: Doyle credit cards are to be used for company expense items only. All allowable items are described in the Doyle Credit Card Policy. The Doyle Credit Card Policy must be signed by all employees being issued a Doyle Credit Card. The credit card shall not be used to purchase items such as tobacco products, alcohol, lottery tickets, personal items, personal bills/invoices, or clothing. Any accidents or incidents must be reported to the Transportation Supervisor, regardless of severity. End of Trip: When returning to Doyle facility all trucks must be clean, free of trash or personal items, tools and equipment organized and properly stored. Log-Tablet must be turned off. If a truck is due for service or repair, the Transportation Supervisor must be notified before taking the truck for repair or service. Inspect trailer upon return and report on any wear items such as battery, tires, straps, etc. Goose-neck trailer brakes and shackles must be inspected before and after use. Complete a Post-Trip Trailer Inspection form and turn-in with paperwork. All expense receipts must be kept in the provided black folder and be turned in every Friday. Do not fold receipts.
