We are looking for someone who has the dedication to provide support, information, and guidance to victims and witnesses throughout the criminal justice process to ensure they are informed, prepared, and treated with dignity.

The purpose of the Victim Witness Specialist is to provide information and assistance to crime victims and witnesses regarding restitution, court procedures, and referrals to various agencies for services and ensure that victims' and witnesses are apprised of their rights under Wisconsin statutes and Constitution provisions and to perform related reporting and recordkeeping tasks for the Sauk County District Attorney's Office.

Essential Duties

• Act as an advocate and liaison on behalf of crime victims within the criminal justice system to assure the protections of victims' right as specified in Chapter 950 of the Wisconsin Statutes and in accordance with Marsy's Law.
• Perform court-related tasks such as notifying victims/witnesses of court proceedings, assisting prosecuting attorney during court proceedings regarding victim/witness testimony/appearances, and escorting victims/witnesses to court proceedings.
• Assist in gathering victim/witness information to assist prosecution; and provide courts with information regarding the impact of crime on victims' economically, physically and psychologically.
• Review criminal files to determine victim names and possible restitution, investigate restitution claims, and contact victims, insurance companies, law enforcement agencies and other concerned parties to verify claims.
• Enter victim information to computer database (Protect) and prepare and send informational contact letters, restitution claim forms, crime victim compensation applications, and other correspondence and forms.
• Schedule victims/witnesses for interviews. Cancel civilian and law enforcements witnesses when case hearings are cancelled or rescheduled.
• Monitor subpoena service.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Working Hours

Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am until 4:30 pm. Please note these hours are subject to change and additional hours may be needed or required. Compensation for additional hours beyond normal working hours are subject to applicable state and federal regulations.

Minimum Training and Education

Required:

• Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, or another related field
• 2 years of office or clerical experience

Preferred:

• Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, or another related field
• 3 years of criminal justice or victim/witness support service experience

Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
