Qualifications:  

• Demonstrated ability to engage students’ emotional intelligence and support students with a wide range of abilities, backgrounds, and learning styles, using a trauma-informed approach
• Demonstrated ability to embody a commitment to anti-racist work and advancing community and justice in our educational system 
• Demonstrated commitment to creating a culture of well-being and collaboration for all students with the goal of creating empowered learners, ethical and global citizens, and resilient individuals 
• Demonstrated flexibility and problem-solving skills in order to work as a productive team member
• Understanding and commitment to multi-age groupings
• Advanced study in the field of Social Work and/or Guidance and Counseling with an emphasis on
  group guidance and adolescent development. 
• Masters degree required 
• Experience working with elementary students in an elementary school setting is preferred. 
• Licensed Master's Social Worker through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and
  Regulatory Affairs OR Limited Licensed Master’s Social Worker through the State of Michigan
  Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs AND 
• Temporary or Full Approval as a School Social Worker; or currently enrolled in a program to
  obtain; which includes: 

• Minimum of a 500-clock hour supervised social work practicum. 
• Satisfactory completion of 1 year as a school social worker with direction from a fully approved school social worker. 

OR  

• Possess Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited institution AND
• Be willing to enroll in coursework to add School Social Work Endorsement 
• Advanced study in the field of Social Work and/or Guidance and Counseling with an emphasis on
  group guidance and adolescent development. 
• Masters degree required 
• Experience working with elementary students in an elementary school setting is preferred.

Desired Qualifications:  

• Interpersonal leadership skills (communication, problem solving, conflict management,
  collaboration, initiative). 
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of effective Tier 1 social and emotional learning strategies
  such as Responsive Classroom, Zones of Regulation, and other Positive Behavior Intervention
  Supports. 
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of a Multi-Tiered System of Support, including social and
  emotional assessments, intervention tools, strategies and resources in tier 2 and tier 3.
• Engage in progress monitoring of evidence-based interventions, analyzes data, and makes
  informed decisions about tiered interventions.
• Knowledge of federal and state laws as they relate to student educational rights: 504s/ADA,
  Special Education/IDEA, Title IX, FERPA, HIPAA, MDE: Seclusion & Restraint Policy.
• Familiarity with McKinney-Vento Act requirements and homeless student services.

Description of Duties:  

• Serves as the McKinney-Vento Homeless Liaison
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district regulations (IDEA, FERPA, ESSA, McKinney-Vento, mandated reporting laws)
• Serve as a member of Multidisciplinary Evaluation Teams (MET). 
• Serve as a member of Individualized Education Plan (IEP) teams. 
• Participate as a 504 team member.
• Plans with IEP team members to develop appropriate Goals and Objectives for eligible students 
• Communicate effectively with all members of the IEP team, school district, and community. 
• Provide instruction, modeling, and coaching to students and school staff in the implementation of
  effective behavior intervention strategies and techniques. 
• Facilitate individual and/or group sessions based on student needs.
• Keep and maintain documentation of provided services within PSSP.
• Communicate with parents/guardians on the status of student progress and/or areas of need or concerns.
• Complete semester-based progress notes to document and  inform parent/guardians of student progress.
• Provide liaison, coordination, and case management services with schools, families, community
  agencies, and other resources to influence positive school outcomes for students. 
• Develop functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans to facilitate successful
  learning and socialization opportunities. 
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or
  diagram form. 

• Ability to build rapport and serve diverse populations. 
• Conduct risk assessments, develop and implement individual student threat response plans,
  monitor and support individual student plans. 

• Ability to respond to crisis situations and utilize de-escalation strategies.
• Highly proficient in using skills in subjects of reasoning, problem-solving, organization dynamics,
  and emotional intelligence. 
• Identify and work to prevent bias, prejudice, discrimination, and oppression that interfere with
  individual rights in the educational process. 
• Ensure that prevention, assessment, evaluation, and special education services are sensitive to
  the diverse needs of the student's multi-cultural differences. 
• Other duties as assigned a school administrator and/or Director of Student Services.
• Attend school functions (i.e. curriculum celebration, curriculum night, enrollment informational, 8th grade graduation, and on family/teacher conference days remain available until 3:30 at school). 
• Participate and complete CPI (Nonviolent Crisis Prevention Intervention) training
• Participate and complete CSTAG training
