Chef Sujan Sarkar is bringing Elder, a modern British Indian Chop House, to New York City. Blending the traditions of classic British chophouses with the bold flavors and techniques of Indian cuisine, Elder will offer a refined yet welcoming dining experience centered around exceptional hospitality, premium ingredients, and genuine service.

We are seeking dedicated Front of House professionals to join our opening team as we bring this exciting new concept to life.

The Back Server position at Elder is a pooled-tip service role focused on supporting the dining room through exceptional table maintenance, seamless food service, and thoughtful guest support. As an integral part of the service team, you will help create an organized, polished, and efficient dining experience while working alongside captains, bartenders, hosts, and management.

Job Description

Back Servers are responsible for maintaining the highest standards of dining room readiness throughout service. This includes supporting the service team by maintaining server stations, polishing and stocking tableware, assisting with food delivery, and anticipating guest needs from the moment they arrive until the conclusion of their dining experience.

This position works closely with Captains, Bartenders, Hosts, Food Runners, and the culinary team while reporting directly to the Front of House management team.

Essential Duties

• Deliver warm, knowledgeable, attentive, and professional hospitality at all times.
• Support the service team through continuous table maintenance, including water service, clearing, resetting, and maintaining an immaculate dining room.
• Assist with food delivery while ensuring dishes are presented accurately and professionally.
• Respond promptly to guest requests by communicating effectively with Captains and management.
• Maintain and stock all service stations before, during, and after service.
• Polish and organize silverware, glassware, and all dining room equipment.
• Assist in maintaining coffee stations and other service support areas.
• Prioritize multiple responsibilities while maintaining a calm and organized approach.
• Support fellow team members to ensure every guest receives exceptional service.
• Develop a working knowledge of the food, beverage, and cocktail menus.
• Learn the story and philosophy behind Elder and confidently represent the restaurant to guests.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the dining room and bar.
• Adhere to all grooming, appearance, and uniform standards.
• Complete additional service and operational tasks as assigned by management.

Skills & Qualifications

• Minimum one year of restaurant experience in a high-volume or upscale dining environment preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Positive attitude with a genuine desire to support teammates.
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
• Ability to receive coaching and implement feedback professionally.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure and hospitality.
• Passion for restaurants, food, and delivering memorable guest experiences.

Physical Requirements

This position requires standing and walking for extended periods of time, frequent bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Applicants must be able to perform these essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
