Duties & Responsibilities About University Counseling Services: The mission of University Counseling Services is to support student success by providing clinical services, advocacy, recovery support, outreach, and professional training. About the Role: Working closely with undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on the Monroe Park and MCV (medical) campuses. General duties include intake assessment, individual therapy, crisis work including on‑call coverage, and consultation with university faculty and staff. Additional duties may include group therapy, provision of supervision, and outreach. There is also a potential opportunity to develop a niche or subspecialty area. University Description: VCU is a public, urban university of over 30,000 students located on two campuses in the capital city of Richmond, VA. University Counseling Services has an APA‑accredited doctoral internship training program. The multidisciplinary staff of UCS includes full‑time clinicians from the fields of psychology and social work. University Slotting – 22001N – Psychology Intern HS State Role Code 49211 Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Psychology interns shall be enrolled in APA‑accredited counseling or clinical Ph.D. or Psy.D. programs. They must participate in the National Match through APPIC. Psychology interns must have passed qualifying exams and proposed their dissertations prior to beginning the internship. They must be in good academic standing and their DCT must endorse their readiness for internship. No license is required for this position. Successful completion of a background check is required for hire. Typical Education and Experience A master's degree is required for this position. Enrollment in a doctoral program is also required. Psychology Interns shall have completed practicum experience and be enrolled in a doctoral program in professional psychology which requires internship training. Evidence of strong clinical skills, excellent interpersonal skills (oral and written communication), ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary counseling center team. Demonstrated commitment to multicultural competence. Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences.
