The following duties are required of the position; they include, but are not limited to:

The Emergency Department Director's responsibilities include recruiting and retaining well qualified ED physicians, recruiting and maintaining a pool of moonlighters to provide night/weekend and holiday coverage, scheduling staff to ensure adequate coverage, and serving as ED liaison with hospital administration and medical staff. The ED Director is also responsible for making sure the ED staffs understand their patient care and administrative responsibilities.

The Chief must demonstrate leadership skills and a high degree of personal and professional skills, interpersonal relations, critical thinking, and problem solving and conflict resolution. The Emergency Department Director supervises a variety of staff, who are aligned under the Emergency Department and works closely with staff who are aligned under other departments such as Nursing.
