Full-Time– Drug Resource Specialist

JOB SUMMARY: The Drug Resource Specialist provides a variety of drug and alcohol prevention, education and counseling services for students and families on school campus and as referred by the school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Provides a safe and positive environment for youth.
• Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship with school personnel.
• Provides individual, group and family counseling for youth and families.
• Provides drug and alcohol trainings/presentations.
• Facilitates The Seven Challenges and anger management programs.
• Coordinates and participates in prevention activities at the school and/or in the community.
• Provides case management and advocacy.
• Provides information and referrals to community resources.
• Collaborates other agencies.
• Generates, collects, and prepares data/reports for agency and school use.
• Promotes alcohol and drug free choices, positive social-emotional connections at school and cultural awareness and acceptance.
• Participates in agency outreach efforts. Perform administrative functions as delegated by the Program Officer.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Education, License/Certification, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Language) Drug Resource Specialist position requires knowledge of substance abuse prevention, experience working with youth, families and schools, counseling and case management skills, computer competence (Outlook, Word), organizational and planning skills and excellent written and verbal skills. The incumbent must be able to work independently and as member of team. The incumbent must also be able to work closely with school staff while staying connected to CHS and the supervisor to successfully implement program objectives and develop strong, healthy, ongoing relationships with students and the school.

Candidates for this position must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Psychology or Social Work and two years related work experience. The equivalent combination of education and related experience may be substituted for the above. Preference will be given to bilingual/bi-literate/bi-cultural candidates. Valid California driver’s license and auto insurance required.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

• Physical, mental and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position
• Mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions
• Manual dexterity sufficient to write, use the telephone, computer, calculator and office machines at required speed and accuracy
• Vision sufficient to read handwritten and printed materials and the display screen of various office equipment and machines
• Hearing sufficient to communicate in person and hold telephone conversations in the normal range;
• Speaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distances on the telephone and addressing groups
• Physical stamina sufficient to sustain light to medium physical labor for up to 8 hours, sit and/or walk for prolonged periods of time
• Physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment for sustained periods of time on hard flooring, climb slopes, stairs, ramps and to respond to emergency situations
• Physical strength sufficient to periodically lift, carry, push and/or pull 40 pounds of materials or supplies; occasionally lift, carry, push and/or pull more than 40 pounds with assistance

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Predominantly indoor work environment. Outdoors occasionally for work-related errands and travel, drills.

Vacation leave and floating holiday must align with the district calendar of your assigned school site whenever possible to mitigate excessive absences and ensure availability of services.

Salary $58,495- $71,102 per year D.O.E. Additional 5% if Bilingual and Biliterate in English and Spanish.
