Summer Community Assistant
Summer Community Assistants, or CAs, serve as vital members of the Office of Student Housing, supporting students, staff, and guests residing in MSU housing facilities during the summer. As live-in staff, they foster a welcoming community within the summer residence hall, while serving as visible leaders and representatives of the university. In this role, CAs provide a high level of customer service to guests and campus partners by facilitating housing check-in and check-out processes, responding to questions and concerns, and serving as knowledgeable resources for building, campus, and local services. Summer Community Assistants serve in an on-call rotation for both residence halls and camps and conferences and respond to and help resolve emergencies, crises, and conflict situations. CAs collaborate with their residence hall team, including other Community Assistants and the Area Coordinator, to maintain a safe and supportive environment. Administrative responsibilities include working in the main Housing Office, completing necessary paperwork, and assisting with departmental projects to support overall housing operations.

Maintain a visible and engaged presence through scheduled shifts, front desk coverage, and on-call rotations, including nights and weekends. Conduct routine facility checks to ensure cleanliness, safety, and security standards while on call. Respond to questions and concerns and serve as first-level responders to emergency and crisis situations in and around the residence halls and contact appropriate university and/or emergency response staff as needed. Enforce university and conference policies and procedures and submit documentation as necessary for any conflicts related to these policies and procedures. Complete all administrative documentation in a timely manner, including but not limited to, facilities work requests, room condition reports, and guest occupancy reports. Assist in conflict resolution among residents, including facilitating conversations and roommate mediations. Maintain accurate records in accordance with university policies and applicable laws.
