Meat ClerkMeat Clerk personnel wrap and package cuts of meat and poultry and assist with the proper presentation of all meat department products into coolers for customers.Empaquetador de carne y el personal de la exhibición de cajas envuelven y empaquetan los cortes de la carne y de las aves de corral y ayudan con la presentación apropiada de todos los productos del departamento de la carne en los enfriadores para los clientes.Essential duties and responsibilities include weighing, labeling and/or packaging meat or seafood to be displayed for customers; lifting and carrying merchandise from back room onto rolling stock cart or directly to display coolers; checking product quality to ensure freshness, reviewing "sell by" dates and taking appropriate action, rotating products by date to maintain freshness; labeling, stocking and inventorying department merchandise; maintaining refrigerated cases with appetizing displays of products for sale; assisting customers by answering questions regarding products sold within the department; staying current with present, future, seasonal and special ads; keeping work area clean, orderly and free from safety hazards; washing, sanitizing and storing knives and other department utensils and equipment properly; using all equipment in meat department properly such as the refrigerators, freezers, scales, slicers and wrapping device according to company guidelines; maintaining all requirements for sanitary work area to keep food safe from contamination; adhering to proper procedures with all aspects of federal, state, local and company health, safety and sanitation codes; when working the end of day shift, completing all required cleaning procedures including, but not limited to hosing down the floor, cleaning countertops, meat cutting equipment, etc.; reporting all accidents promptly according to company procedures; attending and participating in departmental and store meetings; punctuality and good attendance in compliance with company policies; performing other work-related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position.Secondary duties and responsibilities include ensuring country of origin labels and/or signage is correct for department products; reporting product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager; staying current with present, future, seasonal and special ads; assisting with customer areas of Meat, Deli and Seafood when needed; assisting with unloading and/or verifying merchandise off meat delivery trucks when needed.Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and minimum of 18 years of age; current food safety training certificate required and must be renewed every three (3) years. Competencies, skills and/or qualifications include ability to use department equipment properly to accomplish essential duties of the position; ability to read, write and speak English and Spanish preferred; ability to understand and follow instructions in both English and Spanish preferred; ability and willingness to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one and small group situations with managers, co-workers and customers; good interpersonal skills; takes responsibility for own actions; ability to work hours and days scheduled, including holidays and weekends; basic math and numerical skills required including weights, measures and identifying product codes; ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form; demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.Physical demands include standing in one place for extended periods of time; walking; use fingers and hands; reach with hands and arms; use repetitive motion with arms; talk and hear; use sense of smell; close vision, have eye-hand coordination and peripheral vision. Frequently required to carry, lift and/or move departmental products and merchandise; push and pull carts of departmental products and merchandise; stoop or bend at the waist; twist back and/or neck; crouch or bend at the knees. Occasionally to rarely required to sit; climb; balance.Work environment includes performing duties in a grocery store environment; maintaining frequent contact with supervisors, employees and customers; noise level in the work environment is moderate. Frequent use of gloves, knives, wrapping devices, meat and cheese slicers, case cutter, stock cart, refrigerators, freezers, coolers, and cleaning supplies and equipment. Floor surfaces may get slippery therefore caution and safety is mandatory. Proper attire is required to tolerate freezing temperatures.
