Senior Employee Relations Specialist

Position Summary The Senior Employee Relations Specialist manages a variety of responsibilities within the employee relations function of the HR department, including handling performance management and employee relations cases with a high degree of independence and complexity. The role also supports the semi‑annual performance review process, leaves and accommodations, exit interviews, and may provide backup support in other HR areas. Location & Work Arrangement Available at the following locations: Atlanta, GA; Austin, TX; Bellevue, WA; Dover, OH; Long Beach, CA; Portland, OR; St. Louis, MO; Cleveland, OH. Some positions may be eligible for remote or hybrid work arrangements. Responsibilities Research and resolve complex employee relations and performance management issues with minimal direction. Recommend courses of action ranging from coaching to formal discipline up to termination. Draft meeting notes, performance improvement plans, disciplinary actions, and other communications. Track and follow up on employee relations cases until resolution. Provide data‑driven insights to identify trends, mitigate risk, and support proactive ER strategies. Conduct intake of employee concerns via email, phone, or case‑management system. Coach leaders on effective communication regarding employee issues. Assist with internal investigations, recommend actions, and act as witness or note‑taker when needed. Facilitate the semi‑annual performance review process, system setup, and content development. Conduct exit interviews and support turnover data tracking. Support accommodation requests (ADA) and manage the interactive process. Develop and deliver employee and manager development training courses. Participate in HR projects and collaborate across departments. Provide backup support to the HR department and special projects. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum 8 years of experience directly managing employee relations cases, preferably in a multi‑state organization or professional services firm. Strong analytical, writing, and documentation skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interpret complex HR policies and laws. Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws with risk assessment ability. Experience leading complex investigations, including interviewing and evidence analysis. Sound judgment and ability to recommend appropriate, compliant solutions. Consulting and influencing skills with leaders at all levels. Ability to handle a fast‑paced, varied workload with strict confidentiality. Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, HR software such as Paychex Flex and Workday). Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required. Preferred Skills & Certifications HRCI or SHRM certification. HR Generalist or HRBP experience considered a substitute for specialized roles. Ability to mentor and grow staff within the employee relations area. Compensation & Benefits Salary range: $86,000 – $116,000, depending on experience. Includes competitive benefits such as 401(k) with profit sharing, discretionary annual bonuses, CPA bonus plan, additional paid holidays, flexible hours, and hybrid/remote options.
