Job Description

Our client, a private equity-backed professional services firm, is seeking a Controller to lead accounting operations, own the monthly close and financial reporting, and serve as the firm’s technical authority on revenue recognition as it scales.

Responsibilities

• Own the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close, delivering accurate, timely financial statements
\n
• Serve as the technical lead on revenue recognition under ASC 606, including contract review, project-based and time-and-materials billing, milestones, and variable consideration
\n
• Prepare monthly reporting packages for the CFO, executive team and private equity sponsor, including lender and covenant reporting
\n
• Manage the annual audit and serve as the primary contact for external auditors
\n
• Build and enforce internal controls, accounting policies and documentation suited to a sponsor-backed company
\n
• Oversee billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll accounting and fixed assets
\n
• Support acquisitions, including due diligence, purchase accounting and integration of acquired businesses onto the firm’s systems and close process
\n
• Partner with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting and project or practice-level profitability analysis
\n
• Lead process improvement and system enhancements to shorten the close and improve reporting quality
\n
• Hire, manage and develop the accounting team

Requirements

\n
• Active CPA license (required)
\n
• Public accounting experience (required), ideally in audit at a national or regional firm
\n
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including time in a Controller, Assistant Controller or Accounting Manager role
\n
• Deep, hands-on expertise in revenue recognition (ASC 606), ideally for services or project-based contracts
\n
• Experience in a private equity-backed or high-growth environment, with exposure to sponsor and lender reporting
\n
• Strong command of US GAAP, the close process and internal controls
\n
• M&A integration and purchase accounting experience preferred
\n
• Proficiency with a modern ERP (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct or similar) and advanced Excel
\n
• Proven leader who can build and develop a team in a fast-paced setting
\n
• Clear communicator, comfortable presenting to executives and investors
\n
