Surgical Technologist 1

The Surgical Technologist 1 is a trained individual with advanced technical knowledge and skills in asepsis and the intraoperative phase of surgical patient care management for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. They provide all necessary instrumentation, supplies, and equipment for the surgical procedure and offer direct patient care under the direction and supervision of the circulating nurse (RN). They ensure OR supplies meet standards, develop collaborative relationships with physicians and interdepartmental personnel, and maintain sterilization and equipment integrity. Responsibilities Reviews procedure cards and surgeon preference cards to determine needs in preparation for each surgical procedure. Assists and collaborates with the circulating nurse to set up for surgical procedures with proper instrumentation, equipment, and supplies. Passes instruments and performs retraction for the surgeon at the sterile field as directed. Anticipates needs of the surgical team during the procedure and provides them with proper instruments, equipment, and supplies. Assists in the care, cleaning, and maintenance of all general and specialty instruments, equipment, and supplies per established guidelines, policies, and procedures. Collaborates with the circulating nurse to ensure the accuracy of all sponge, sharps, and instrument counts per established policies and procedures. Applies the principles of asepsis to maintain the integrity of the sterile field. Assists in maintaining inventory of supplies in operating rooms and storerooms. Assists in transporting patients and in moving or manipulating equipment as required. Communicates effectively. Actively participates in performing the essential components of the WHO Checklist, hand hygiene, and other department safety and quality initiatives. Supports parallel processing in collaboration with the circulating nurse and team staff to achieve or maintain turnover goals and on‑time starts. Rotates on‑call for specified nights, weekends, and holidays. Education And Experience Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program or equivalent experience. New graduate (0–1 years of experience). Certification/License Must meet all requirements to practice as a surgical technologist in Massachusetts. Certification obtained within one year of the completion of the accredited Surgical Technology program. BCLS certification required. Pay Range $33.50 - $49.78 The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, including seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
