Care and transport of the critically ill patient is supported using the nursing process and clinical skills in accordance with Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) standards and hospital policies and procedures. Varied schedules to include weekend and holiday patterns./ph3Essential Functions/h3ulliConducts individualized age-specific patient/family assessments according to defined unit scope and nursing practice standards./liliInitial Assessment: Collects and documents data related to patients individualized care. Demonstrates age-specific competency in assessment of patients by the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient needs, knowledge of growth and development, and understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients. Assesses patient/family need for education and uses an individualized approach in delivery style. Assess and interprets patient data upon arrival at the referring hospital./liliReassessment: Performs reassessment based on unit standards, and changes in patient condition. Communicates changes to appropriate persons (MCP, transport partner, family) as indicated. Performs reassessments on transports after interventions and as needed. Communicates changes to medical control physician./liliDevelops individualized patient/family plan of care using clinical practice guidelines to meet identified needs. (Plan of Care includes current and anticipated actions focused on stabilization, care, and transport needs.)/liliUtilizes assessment data from the referral hospital or team as well as transport assessment data to individualize patient care and transport needs./liliUtilizes individualized assessment data to develop the patient/familys plan of care./liliRevises plan of care based on patients condition and transport conditions (weather, distance, mode.)/liliDemonstrates ability to prioritize patient care or interventions based on assessments/reassessments./liliWhile on transport, develops and initiates a plan of care incorporating current and potential problems requiring intervention, expected response and the medical plan of care in collaboration with the medical control physician. Communicates the plan to the receiving nurse prior to arrival at Childrens Hospital or receiving facility./liliImplements and evaluates nursing actions in accordance with the individualized patient/family plan of care and patient condition/needs./liliIncorporates critical thinking into the delivery of clinical skills and in analyzing patient response to orders, tests, labs, medications, and treatments./liliDemonstrates clinical competence in administering interventions according to identified standards and age specific needs./liliDuring the transport process, prioritizes and organizes care based on patient acuity, time limitations and consultation with medical control physician. Initiates action to prevent current or potential risk to a patient in an emergent situation./liliDocumentation reflects accurate assessment/evaluation, modification, and patients response to therapy, changes in condition, and therapeutic interventions/procedures./liliEntries into the electronic medical record follow transport documentation policy./liliDocumentation is completed within established timeframes./liliDemonstrates responsiveness to the organizational functions of the transport process./liliResponse times are within targeted benchmarks set by the program./liliComplies with ambulance, helicopter, and fixed wing operational safety in accordance with current guidelines./liliChecks, cleans, and stocks transport bags and equipment. Ensures equipment is in good working order./liliMaintains all transport equipment in a state of mission readiness by checking all equipment at the beginning of each shift, noting any discrepancies, and ensuring steps toward resolution./liliCleans equipment and restocks bags after a transport./liliDemonstrates knowledge of transport equipment location, function, and restocking procedures. Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot all equipment and ensures that all malfunctions are promptly reported./liliCompletes daily, weekly, monthly, and ongoing equipment checklists./liliCompletes quarterly competencies, monthly education, aircrew training, and other educational and professional development requirements when assigned./liliRegular attendance at work is an essential function of the job./liliPerform physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section/liliAdherence to Transport Fit for Duty policy./li/ulh3Education Qualifications/h3ulliBachelors Degree from an accredited school of nursing Preferred and/liliMust be enrolled in a Bachelor of Nursing program Required/li/ulh3Experience Qualifications/h3ulliMinimum 3-year experience critical care Required and/liliMinimum 1 year of experience with pediatric patients Preferred/li/ulh3Skills And Abilities/h3ulliMust be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure, and be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritizing skills./liliMust be able to work in an environment which includes the use of ambulance, helicopter, and airplane patient transport vehicles that results in exposure to non-conventional motions, noise, vibration, fumes and extreme heat/cold./liliMust be able to perform multiple physical activities at the same time (i.e., carrying equipment while pushing a cot or incubator)/li/ulh3Licenses and Certifications/h3ulliRN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Required and/liliBCLS - Basic Life Support Required and/liliPALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 180 Days Required and/liliNRP - Neonatal Resuscitation within 180 Days Required and/liliCAMTS approved trauma certification course within 1 Year Preferred and/liliSpecialty Certification required within 2 years of hire Required/liliMust have valid drivers license with an acceptable motor vehicle driving record Required and/liliDue to the aircraft the Organization utilizes for both rotary and fixed wing, all Transport applicants must be 225 lbs or under Upon Hire Required/li/ulpChildrens is the very best for kids and the very best for your career!
