Duties

The role involves providing comprehensive counseling and support services to military personnel and their families facing various life challenges. Key responsibilities include:

• Receiving and assessing referrals for individuals, couples, families, and groups experiencing situational stressors.
• Providing direct, short-term, solution-focused counseling services using various psychotherapeutic methods.
• Developing and executing short-term, solution-focused counseling treatment plans for common life circumstance issues or adjustment disorders.
• Referring clients with complex issues to appropriate military or civilian behavioral health providers.
• Assisting individuals and families in coping with life stresses, family dynamics, parenting, crisis response, and other stressors.
• Providing immediate intervention and risk assessment for cases presenting suicidal or homicidal risk, ensuring adequate referral and follow-up.
• Performing FAP Case Management duties, including receiving reports of suspected child and spouse abuse and taking required actions.
• Serving as the designated case manager and primary FAP point of contact for spouse and child abuse cases, ensuring compliance with directives and reporting requirements.
• Handling reports of problematic sexual behaviors in children and youth, taking appropriate action per FAP requirements.
• Providing or coordinating clinical services access for children, youth, and their families exhibiting problematic sexual behaviors.
• Preparing case summary reports and maintaining contact with Family Advocacy Representatives for child sexual abuse cases involving alleged active duty offenders.
• Assessing reports of alleged child and domestic abuse, including interviewing alleged offenders, victims, children, and witnesses.
• Developing risk-focused treatment and interventions for victims and perpetrators of child and domestic abuse in accordance with Navy standards.
• Coordinating FAP training and communication to inform military members and their families about family violence, FAP requirements, and available services.
• Conducting family violence briefs, workshops, and training for various stakeholders.
• Liaisoning with various agencies to enhance FAP prevention and response affecting the military community.
• Representing the Navy at community liaison meetings, educating on domestic violence risk/protective factors, and collaborating on coordinating services for military members and their families.
• Providing summaries of liaison meetings for supervisor review and making recommendations for further collaborations.
• Educating and providing case-specific consultation to military and civilian agencies about counseling services, FAP, risk assessment, clinical issues, treatment, and Incident Determination Committee processes.
• Participating in the CAP Quality Assurance Program and peer review process as directed.
• Testifying at juvenile court, family court, and any military legal hearing regarding Family Advocacy cases as appropriate.
• Participating in committees and boards as directed such as CDC Quality Review Boards, Family Advocacy and Sexual Assault Prevention and Response.
