Hiring Environmental Service Workers for a New Facility!
The Environmental Service Worker maintains hospital facilities in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition to support patient care and infection control. This role performs detailed cleaning of patient rooms and public areas, follows strict sanitization procedures, and works closely with clinical and administrative staff to ensure all spaces remain hygienic and welcoming.
Responsibilities
- Maintain hospital facilities in a consistently clean and sanitary condition to support a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Stock and organize a personal cleaning cart at the beginning of each shift, ensuring all necessary supplies, tools, and chemicals are available and properly labeled.
- Perform daily cleans of patient rooms, typically lasting about 15 minutes per room, including dusting, sweeping, mopping, and removing soiled linens.
- Perform discharge cleans of patient rooms, typically lasting about 45 minutes per room, thoroughly wiping and disinfecting every surface to prepare the room for the next patient.
- Use different cleaning chemicals appropriately based on surface type and patient status, following all safety and infection control protocols.
- Follow strict sanitization procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support infection control throughout the hospital.
- Reference laminated SOPs provided on each cart to ensure consistent and compliant cleaning practices.
- Complete the majority of daily and discharge cleans during the morning shift, coordinating tasks with team members as needed.
- Clean public areas such as lobbies, rehabilitation gyms, café spaces, stairwells, and offices by vacuuming, removing trash, and mopping floors.
- Focus on public area cleaning primarily during the second shift, ensuring high-traffic spaces remain clean and presentable.
- Collaborate with nursing and office staff to access patient rooms and workspaces at appropriate times, minimizing disruptions to care and operations.
- Handle cleaning chemicals safely, following all guidelines for proper use, storage, and disposal.
- Maintain a high level of attention to detail to ensure all assigned areas meet cleanliness and infection control standards.
- Report any maintenance or safety issues observed during cleaning to the appropriate personnel.
- Support a clean, orderly, and professional appearance of all hospital areas at all times.
Essential Skills
- Experience with janitorial duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and trash removal.
- Background in cleaning operations with a strong focus on infection control practices.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their appropriate use for different surfaces and applications.
- Ability to follow detailed procedures and standard operating protocols accurately and consistently.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure thorough cleaning and sanitization in patient rooms and public areas.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, bending, and lifting during the shift.
- Comfort working in a hospital facility, including in and out of patient rooms.
- Reliable time management skills to complete daily and discharge cleans within expected timeframes.

Work Environment
This is a full-time position in a clean, climate-controlled hospital setting, working in and out of patient rooms. The facility is a newer hospital with approximately 40 beds upstairs and 20 beds downstairs. The evening shift typically runs from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The specific days worked may rotate monthly based on full-time staff schedules, with Monday and Friday being the most frequently covered days and usually two days a week assigned. The environment includes patient care areas, lobbies, rehabilitation gyms, café spaces, stairwells, and offices, all maintained to high standards of cleanliness and sanitation.
Job Type & Location: This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Miamisburg, OH.
Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $18.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
