Embedded Software Engineer - MATLAB/Simulink & C++

Salary: $83,200 - 93,600 per year Requirements:

• At least 3 years of professional embedded software development experience; mid-career candidates are sought.
• Proficiency in model-based design and simulation using MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow.
• Strong C and/or C++ programming skills for microcontrollers or embedded control units.
• Practical experience with CAN bus networks and SAE J1939 protocols.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and data sheets, and use diagnostic tools such as logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, or CAN analyzers.
• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
• Preferred: experience developing controls for off-highway machinery, agricultural tractors, automotive powertrains, or heavy commercial vehicles.
• Preferred: familiarity with automated test frameworks, CI/CD, and automated build pipelines.
• Preferred: understanding of electro-hydraulic systems, motor controllers, or battery-electric vehicles.
• Preferred: active drivers license and comfort operating turf equipment and mowers during testing.
• Must be able to work onsite in Cary, North Carolina, and make up to 10% local trips to test facilities; metatarsal safety boots are required.

• Develop, simulate, and auto-generate code for vehicle control algorithms using MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow for electro-hydraulic, powertrain, and implement control systems.
• Write, configure, and maintain production C/C++ software for real-time embedded targets and microcontrollers.
• Implement and test vehicle networks using CAN bus, SAE J1939, LIN, and diagnostic messaging protocols.
• Integrate embedded operating systems, board support packages, device drivers, and sensor inputs; review schematics and verify electronic control units.

We are seeking a mid-level Embedded Software Engineer for our software engineering team in Cary, North Carolinas RTP area. Our client is an industry leader in high-performance lawn care equipment, utility tractors, and precision turf machinery. This hands-on vehicle controls role focuses on developing, validating, and optimizing embedded software for next-generation turf and compact utility tractors. The position is a 12-month contract with possible extension, onsite five days a week, Monday through Friday, on a flexible first-shift schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Compensation is $40–$45 per hour on W-2. The selection process has two rounds: a 30-minute Teams screening followed by a one-hour technical interview held by Teams or onsite.
