SQL DBA (Ohio local only)

Initially remote but eventually maybe in-office at 1221 McKinley Avenue, Columbus Ohio.

Required Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent technical field, or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years of dedicated hands-on experience managing enterprise-level Microsoft SQL Server environments
• Strong experience with both on-premises and Azure-based SQL Server platforms
• Advanced SQL Server administration, installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and maintenance
• Deep expertise in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and SQL Server internals
• Advanced proficiency in Transact-SQL (T-SQL)
• Performance monitoring and tuning with 5+ years of experience
• Query optimization, indexing, statistics management, blocking, and deadlock resolution
• Backup, restore, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning
• Hands-on experience with SQL Server High Availability/Disaster Recovery solutions, including:
  • Always On Availability Groups
  • Log Shipping
  • Failover Cluster Instances (FCI)
  • Database Replication
• Experience administering Azure SQL Database
• Experience administering Azure SQL Managed Instance
• Experience managing SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines
• Experience with Azure database backup, monitoring, security, migration, and disaster recovery
• Knowledge of Azure Monitor and Log Analytics
• Knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID
• Experience with Azure Key Vault for secure credential and secret management
• Knowledge of Azure role-based access control (RBAC)
• Strong understanding of database security, permissions, logins, encryption at rest, and encryption in transit
• Security and compliance experience with 5+ years of implementing role-based access control (RBAC)
• Experience supporting development teams with schema design, table design, data types, stored procedures, triggers, functions, and complex T-SQL queries
• Developer support and code review experience with 5+ years of experience
• Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
• Experience designing and supporting ETL workflows
• Experience migrating and integrating databases between on-premises SQL Server and Azure
• Strong understanding of Azure database networking, scalability, cost optimization, security, and HA/DR
• Experience with PowerShell and command-line scripting for DBA automation
• Ability to automate index maintenance, database integrity checks, statistics updates, backups, monitoring, and reporting
• Experience with third-party database monitoring and backup tools, including Redgate
• Experience developing DBMS architecture and database standards
• Ability to create comprehensive technical documentation covering installation, monitoring, security, configuration, migrations, and best practices
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to provide Tier III technical support and resolve complex database issues
• Ability to communicate complex technical issues effectively to non-technical stakeholders
• Experience collaborating with IT Architecture, IT Management, development teams, and security leadership
• Experience developing database strategies aligned with business requirements
• Experience with project planning, solution design, and technical business-case development
• Experience mentoring junior DBAs and technical staff
• Ability to participate in disaster recovery, business resumption, incident response, and 24/7 operational support when required
