- Citizenship / Access Requirements: Must satisfy all VA credentialing, suitability, PIV, information-system, privacy, and facility-access requirements applicable to the position.
- Security Requirements: No classified clearance is specified. VA background/suitability screening, credentialing, PIV/access procedures, privacy and information-security training, and system-access controls apply.
- Type of Employment: Full-Time Contractor Position
- Estimated Compensation: $123.19 per hour.
- Staffing: Two Board Certified Therapeutic Medical Physicists (2.0 FTE). At least one physicist must be on-site daily.
- Working Hours: Monday through Friday. Stated shifts are 8:00 AM-4:30 PM and 10:00 AM-6:30 PM. Current clinic hours are generally 7:00 AM-4:30 PM. After-hours work may be required for calibration, measurements, maintenance, or repairs; routine on-call coverage is not required.
- Work Arrangement: On-site at STVHCS Radiation Oncology. Routine telework is not authorized.
- Period of Performance: October 11, 2026 through October 10, 2031, including option periods, with a potential extension of services of up to six additional months.
Summary of Services
The Board Certified Therapeutic Medical Physicist will provide comprehensive on-site medical-physics support for the STVHCS Radiation Oncology Service. The role is approximately 90% direct patient-care support and 10% administrative activity, with responsibility for treatment planning, dose accuracy, radiation safety, equipment and system quality assurance, clinical consultation, documentation, and continuous quality improvement.
Mandatory Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in Medical Physics or a closely related qualifying discipline.
- Current American Board of Radiology certification in Medical Physics or Therapeutic Medical Physics.
- Applicable current, full, and unrestricted professional licensure, registration, credentialing, and National Provider Identifier requirements.
- At least two years of continuous relevant work experience within the preceding three years.
- At least two years of experience performing quality-assurance procedures in therapeutic medical physics.
- At least one year of experience with therapeutic medical physics; Elekta linear accelerators with C-Rad/Sentinel; IGRT/Cone Beam CT; RayStation and Mosaiq; 2D/3D, SRT, SBRT, IMRT/VMAT; Delta IV or equivalent IMRT QA; and Siemens CT Simulator or equivalent systems.
- Technical proficiency and fluency in spoken and written English.
- Ability to maintain required continuing education, credentialing, occupational-health, and VA training requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, optimize, evaluate, and technically review radiation-treatment plans and support accurate delivery of prescribed radiation doses.
- Consult with Radiation Oncologists, dosimetrists, therapists, and technical staff during treatment planning and delivery.
- Support SBRT, SRS, IGRT, IMRT/VMAT, brachytherapy, CT simulation, and other specialized radiation-oncology procedures.
- Review monitor-unit and treatment-time calculations independently and complete weekly and final treatment-chart reviews.
- Perform dosimetry, treatment-planning, imaging, record-and-verify, and radiotherapy-network quality assurance.
- Evaluate equipment performance and support annual calibrations, commissioning, measurements, maintenance, repairs, and implementation of new procedures.
- Maintain radiation-protection and quality-management programs and recommend corrective actions when performance or safety concerns are identified.
- Support radiotherapy computer systems, interfaces, data integrity, and clinical workflow reliability.
- Document services accurately; complete required reports; and participate in QA/QI, patient-safety, training, teaching, and performance-monitoring activities.
- Provide coverage flexibility and support qualified replacement coverage when required to maintain uninterrupted services.
